I would like to start fletching my own arrows but am not sure which jig to buy I was looking at the ez fletch but which degree to I need I am shooting 60# hoyt maxxis 31 ,Easton epic st 400 arrows blazer vanes 100gr broadheads 29-30 draw.I believe the arrows I have now have straight would I benefit from shooting angled fletchings .
Get a Bitzenburger. I like my bohning jig, but I will be upgrading to the bitz. I use a straight clamp and offset the vane as much as possible with good arrow contact.
I have the jo-jan arrow fletcher and I like it. Its really easy to use. I fletched my very first arrow and it turned out perfect. I shoot both 4" and 2" vanes and I have the straight clamp aswell.
I've been using the Jo-Jan for over a year. It all metal and is solid. Does a great job on offset or helical.
blitzenburgs are great!! If you are only doing blazer and on a budget check out the Bohning Helix jig. They put some serious helical on the blazers!! You'd be mad not to get a jig with a helical offset if you are predominately hunting.
why? total newby and I have been tossing bids out on a Bitzenburg on eBay for few months... I have an Octane rest, will a helical work with it? I was afraid of anything other then a straight fletching fearing it would impact the rest's brushes?
I gave my Jo-Jan away and got a Bitz. I'll never get a different jig. I shouldn't have to. This one will last a lifetime.
I use Bitz's at the shop and they are, without question, very good. But I gotta be honest and tell ya that the Grayling I use at home is equally as good, for about half the cost.
Bitzenburger and helical clamp...make sure you get the correct nock indexer for left or right wing (most compound shooters use right wing/right helical). Most traditional, right handed archers use a left wing/left helical so there is less riser shelf contact. I bought mine when I was shooting recurve and carried the left helical into my compound shooting. The helical is a must for large, fixed blade broadheads.
I use a BPE flecthing jig. (3 actually) They are very, very similar to the Bitzenberger jig. When I bought mine the BPE's were about 2/3 the price of the Bitz's. You won't go wrong with a Bitzenberger jig.
Would you tell me what is a "Waterfowl or Flu-flu arrows" ? It sounds girly even, but it might be something else, right?
