I almost always use a red LED light going to or from a stand in the dark. About the only time I don't is when there is a full moon. I have to use one to prevent me from screaming like a little girl. There is NOTHING I hate more than walking into a spider web in the dark. And then even if I know I killed the little sucker until its dead I can feel it crawling on me for the rest of the day. YUCK!

I typically don't use on our smaller private properties unless overcast & no moon...the more I turned off the light growing up, the more I realized how well I can see in the dark. On larger public ground I will use more often, mostly since no defined trails and trying to remain quiet.

I have never noticed a difference in my morning hunt based on whether I used a light coming in or not...I just feel more like a :ninja: with no light :d

I use to only use a light when I needed to, that was until I stepped on a rattler opening day last year:huh:

I try to go without using the flashlight as much as possible, when I do I use the redlight.

Bear or deer hunting I try not to use them but It's always ready to go just In case In my pocket. During certain moon phases It's almost Impossible not to use one, It's pitch black!

I can find my way to and from my stands in the dark, but its poachers I worry about. I've never had a problem spooking deer with a light and I shine it straight down. Just enough for another "hunter" to know I'm not a deer. Even on the private land I hunt I would rather be safe than get shot.

I use a light almost every time except on a full moon with snow on the ground. I don't like to mess around on the way to the area. I like to get there, get to a tree and get up in it, using a light lets me get there quietly and quickly. Headlamps are perfect for this!

Jas do you recall the Cap lights I looked at when we were at that ATA?
Well their claim was to use the green lights as the deer cant see it.
They can still see your movements though, lol

I try to go :ninja: style at all times. Rarely do I use a light, unless I'm going a long way. Greg, I just hold a little branch up in front of me that knocks down the webs and lets me know if I'm going to get whacked by an oncoming limb.

I don't use a light until gun season. Once the gun season opens I use a red light.

Even though I don't hunt during the gun season, I hear enough gun shots right before light and just after dark during archery season to make me use a light. Even if I don't think someone will shot at me, I worry that they will shoot in my direction. I hunt ag land so a bullet can travel a long way before it hits something.

I grew up never using a light. Or at least using a small light only if I absolutetly had to.

Then I found out the beauty of using red lights. Now I use a red light nearly all the time.

I don't use on behind the house but always use one when I hunt other property. I stepped on a black locust thorn a few years ago when I wasn't using a light....went threw my boot into my foot. That made me a firm believer in using a light on the way to that stand lol.

I use a headlamp as well. Putting together your climber in the dark is a real bear. No pun intended.
