Wow. My parents would be in for life... A half mile is what I walk to get the mail at the end of my drive way...

I love when young parents make blanket statements

Could be the case. Sometimes the media slants the case for the arrestee and sometimes it does so for the police. The truth is what we should be after when it comes to writing an article. Just print the truth. If all the kid did was walk to the park and they arrested for a felony, then whoever issued the warrant is an idiot and needs to be in trouble.

A lot of the times during these types of arrests, child protective care is deeply involved with the lives of the family and there have been parameters set for which the family to follow.

Until something causes me to change my mind, I am most certainly going to let my daughter go to the park on her own when she is older. The park is probably about a half mile away too.

I don't know the age yet, I guess whenever I trust that she can make the right decisions and can recognize strangers.

Dress your kids in camo before you send them to the park, so the pedophiles pick on the easier targets.

Hooker I believe you, I have made similar blanket statements, and 9 times out of 10 my position changed. Same thing with most of my friends.

I let my kids run around in the woods behind my house and explore. But for some reason, it sets off alarms when they ask me to go ride their bikes by the main roads and play at the common area near my house, which just happens to be about .5 miles away. :)

Maybe Ive seen and read too much stuff over the past 15 years working with at risk kids and my current job.

And the crazy thing is when I was like 11-12, I watched my 9-10 year old brother the entire summer while my parents worked. We rode our bikes/skateboards miles from the house. Everything was good until.....I thought it was a great idea to ride a rope swing and my brother fell and broke both his arms and cut his chin in half in half in the middle of the woods. I picked my brother up and ran him out of the woods until I reached a little old ladys house....blood everywhere and bones sticking out. hahaha

When I was 8 yrs old I often rode my bike for two miles to the nearest convenience store to buy candy
