Looks like I'm staying in tonight. Caden is still sick and quite the handful. I'm a little bummed, but the wind will be better tomorrow anyways. More stand options, just what I need
Well, I'm calling it today as well. Little man is still sick. The wind is picking up tomorrow, so I'm hoping to shoot for Tuesday. Winds will turn then to WNW. I should be able to hunt the swamp funnel where the moose pics are from.
Here's the layout of that area. The red outline is the new clearcut. The "X" is where my trail cam is. The yellow dot is where I'd like to put a stand. White lines are possible entry routes. The yellow shaded area to the S is a stand of cedar that I know gets a lot of traffic. That's where I think a lot of the deer & moose on cam came from. The blue dot is a spot I hunted a couple times last year. I got wolves howling there last year http://forums.bowhunting.com/showth...rnal-Thread-*semi-live*?p=1012168#post1012168 A WNW wind would be great for sending my scent out over the swamp. I'd think that any deer in the timber between the lake and cut would swing to that corner to scent check the plot. I'm really hoping that they'd come from those cedars and walk the S edge of the cut to the E right by me. My first impression is to go with the furthest S route into the stand. I'm not sure though. Anyways, those are my initial thoughts if the wind direction holds out and I'm actually able to get away for a hunt. We'll see.
Well, it's looking like I'll be heading out for my first hunt of the 2015 season this afternoon The wind forecast has held. NW and a bit gusty this afternoon turning to WNW as it lays down in the evening. Perfect, I believe for the planned setup. The gust wind should also let me sneak in undetected if there are deer bedded in the timber between the lake and the cut. Going to take my time as I head in to get some footage and keep from sweating my you know whats off Hoping to be on the water by 1:30 or 2:00.
Quiet so far. I like the view, though my lanes are small an the footage would be short My 1 o'clock towards the cut edge. Swamp edge to my 9 o'clock
