Been raining pretty much nonstop here. Today it's stopped for a bit this afternoon, but I've been spending all day getting my stuff together for the WI gun season. I'm headed down there tomorrow. I need to get my stand hung and do some chores around the cabin. If I get a buck early on, I'm going to bow hunt our 40 for a doe. I'm hoping to get some meat for the freezer. I'll be down there until Thanksgiving, then off to visit family for the holiday weekend. Looks like the next time I get out up here will be the first of December.
Well, I finally have meat for the freezer. Only buck the 6 of us saw all season! Definitely takes the pressure off for the MN late season. I'm going to take a few days to get settled in back at home and get him butchered up. Then we'll see if we can't track down one of these bucks up here
No footage. I set up my camera arm, but never even dug my camera out of the bag the whole season there. It was kind of a nice break. I wouldn't have gotten footage anyway. He was chasing a hot doe across the creek at 150 yards. It was fast
Im not sure if its just me. but a lot of folks in Wisconsin do more deer drives than Minnesota. I felt the same. when I was bowhunting there. all I saw In Wisconson was a small 8pt in public land.
We're seeing less than 10% of the hunter pressure and drives that we used to. I wish they were still hitting it hard in our area. Got the deer on their feet and we benefited more than the drivers
I have this issue where I hunt too. Right now it's just my brother and I on our 100 acres, and maybe 2 other guys in the 2400 acres of public by us. 15 years ago, you used to have to rush to the boat landing or you'd get stuck behind 10+ vehicles launching boats to get to their spot. Now there is no pressure, and no one doing drives, so deer aren't moving.
