Short uneventful sit today. Got down at 11:45. Would like to have stayed out all day, but with family in town, it just wasn't an option. There were no pics on the camera from last night or this AM. Planning to head back tomorrow. Not sure if it'll be an AM or PM sit though.

Wow I was wondering how close you park the ship to the stand. Guess that clears that up lol

It turns out that we did have pics of the buck my brother shot. It was the one my neighbor had in velvet.

I'm surprised you have that much ice on the lakes there. It's been so warm here this year. 40s and 50s during the day usually. Last year at this time, I had already had the driveway plowed 3x and there was 15" on snow on the ground. Not that I'm complaining, but if I was still hunting, I might be a little sad about the lack of snow. I do wonder what the deer think of you breaking through the ice to get to your stand in the morning. Maybe you should buy one of those heaterbodysuits and just start staying the night until you get the job done.

Keep on them, dude. You'll wear them down sooner or later!

I have one. It's hanging in the tree right now waiting for me to show up tomorrow morning. Left my camera arm & bow bat up there too :tu:

    The HBS is awesome BTW.

There's a handful of spots I can park. Depending on the wind and other conditions, I'll park in different spots. These last few times, I've been in a tiny cove off the right side of the dam there, which I like if I can get away with it. I can walk in the water the whole way in with the exception of about 3 steps on the dam and 4 steps at the base of my tree.

I go back and forth on what to get for late season. I have some okay overalls that are pretty warm, but not quite warm enough for when it's super cold, and the parka I have is just too bulky that it's not even fun to shoot a gun with it on. I've looked at the HBS, but something about wearing a sleeping bag in my stand just feels too bulky and I can't imagine how it would be comfortable sitting on the seat when you're putting so much bulk between you and the tree on your back. They do offer 90 day money back though, so maybe I should try it out

They're actually not that thick. It's thinner that the parka & bibs I used to wear.

Have you ever been cold with it on? What's the worst temps (degrees + wind) you've been out in?

I hear ya, 3-4" of rain expected here and then the winds.

Bright side is may see some flakes fly down here on the tail end.

I've gotten cold, but I only had one layer on under it that day. I've hunted -10 or a bit colder, and single digits with 20 mph winds. I burned out last year before I really got to put it to the test :tu:

I'm a bit anxious this AM. It was only supposed to get to 28* last night. It's currently 25 and has been for a few hours. I'm hoping that the outlet hasn't froze back up. With the calm winds, I'm afraid it may have. Guess we'll find out once I get out there and round that corner.

    Fingers crossed.

I actually think I might delay my departure a bit. If I'm closer to first light, I'll be able to pick my way there along one of the shores. If it's clear, I ll still get in and up quickly since most of my gear is in the tree still.

    Great start.

Beautiful morning. Feels fairly mild. As I round the corner at the entrance to the out let, I can smell a musky buck on the gentile breeze off the ridge. Main channel is open. Round the corner to the final 200 yards of the outlet and the coast is clear!

Wait.... What's that? Brakes! Hit the brakes!! (For those of you unfamiliar with the workings of a canoe... There are no breaks.)

    Crunch!

Well, ****. Gig is up I suppose, so onward ho.

If any deer is dumb enough to walk by me this AM, they deserve to be shot.
