Always looking forward to each addition here. Should be pretty sweet with the new equipment and changes in the grounds, and your future hunting partner on the way

Love this thread. I know it started as a way for you to track your hunts but being a northern MN big woods hunter myself I find myself learning a lot from your journals. Can't wait to see what I can learn from your tactics this year. Good luck.

Great looking pictures. I will look forward to reading more about your hunts and hopefully seeing some Northern Minnesota public land hunts on Bow hunt or Die. So far this is looking like a great road map of what it takes to find and hunt some big bucks for young or inexperienced hunters like myself.

    Keep up the Good work.

Well, here's some photos from the expedition.

It's a huge change for sure! I'm pretty excited about it with my one concern being easier access for others to hunt the area. I'm not sure if the roads are gated back at the entry area or not. I sure hope so.

There were tons of wolf tracks down the new roads.

And this is how the cut lays out

The circle in the middle is an "island" of trees that were left. Some great funnels have been created.

I think I'm going to try and set up a mock scrape along the East line that runs N/S. There were quite a few deer tracks along that edge. Time to see what's out there I guess.

hey Fitz, is that logging going to attract other hunters in there? or atleast give them better access?

Yeah, that's my biggest fear. The best thing we have going is that it's at the very end of the line, so they'd have to drive through everything to hunt it. If they hunt the more easily accessible areas, they'll most likely push deer to me.

Also, this is all state land, but the road is accessed through the loggers own private land. I'm hoping he blocks off the road at his property 6 miles away. That would help immensely.

Never another hunter. Had one New Years Eve sit where I saw a snowmobiler, my neighbor with a chainsaw and a cross country skier all in the course of 2 hours. The snowmobiler got stuck a couple hundred yards down the trail. I ended up running down and pushing him over a log so he could get the heck out of there.

I'm hoping this new cut doesn't change that... but I fear it could

There aren't that many people up where you hunt so I feel like you are fine. Good luck this year Fitz. Put down Buster

Excited this thread is up!!! I share your fears of the unwanted company. Fingers crossed its a gated road. One of the most exciting thing about this thread is how lucky you are to have such a huge area of public land almost to yourself. Either way though, I love your writing and pictures!
