Started taking down the stand but my hands got too cold. I can just pull it tomorrow when I go to pull the other stand.

Well, I'm back from the WI Rifle season. It was a pretty slow year. That, combined with missing the 2nd half of the season with my wife getting sick made for a tough go. I had ample opportunity to shoot a spiker on a couple of occasions, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

My dad was the sole harvester this year with a nice 8 pt.

Now, I'll take a couple days to get caught up here and get all my gear reorganized & washed. Then I'm going to head across the lake to pull my camera and scout for activity. See if we can't get a late season buck on the ground!

Glad that you're back Fitz. That sucks about your wife getting sick. From what I've heard all around the Wisconsin Gun season was very tough and not a lot of shooting. I myself don't participate in it anymore due to a variety of reasons, but I would like to see the numbers this year. I read that the opening weekend of deer registered was down 36% which I'm not surprised (also I do realize that number can be viewed however). Hopefully you get some great weather for late season hunting!

Welcome back Fitz. Can't wait to see what the late season has in store for you. How do your cameras hold up in these temps? Any tricks you got to keep em functioning ? Mine seem to take a beating in the cold.

I've had great luck even in the coldest temps. I usually avoid video, since the night videos are the greatest drain on battery life. It's going to be hard on any camera, but you can still get good results and battery life. My first set of batteries in the G30 last year started in Feb and lasted in August (still taking pic, but I wanted fresh ones for the season). They handled the cold quite well.

Tomorrow I think I'm going to drive across the lake. There's 10" of ice already :tu:

Yeesh. I always have friends that go out on like 4" of ice. That makes me entirely too nervous. Good luck though!

We only have a couple inches here on the WI/IL border. Its still early tho. Can't imagine driving already. I wait till we get about 12" first.

Fitz, did your computer break or are you without power? You are awful quiet for a 15,000 post kind of guy.

Whoa... Blowing the dust off this thing.

Been busy with resort work, design work, Family Chistmas stuff, and getting the nursery ready. Hunting has comepletely been neglected

I'm going to try and sneak out tomorrow or Christmas to hang a stand to the South of the resort. The I might be able to slip in a few hunts before the season ends o the 31st!

Haven't gotten anything but does, foxes and wolves on camera. Bucks have to be somewhere... right?

Well, it would seem that my season is officially over. I was planning to hunt yesterday and today, but the 15-20 mph winds made me change my mind. I don't mind the -18* temps, but the winds sucks.

So, it looks like it's time to once again lick my wounds and start to look to next season's possibilities. This season was nothing like I had anticipated (though they rarely are). I know next year will be different too with the little one here.

I'm going to through together a brief video at some point. The biggest thing holding me back is that I'd like to wait for my new computer so I can edit it in Premiere instead of Movie Maker on my laptop.

I'll open up my hunting journal and post up my stats for this year.
