Hoping the neighbors to the W rifle hunting push the deer to us this am. It'll be quiet in this wet snow, but we should be able to see them at least.

Oh, I always feel kinda dumb wearing orange for the first time this season.

The snow has weighed down the pine boughs, so some of my shooting lanes are partially covered.

The good news is that the wind should lighten the load as the day progresses. The bad news is that snow load will be dumped on me.

We followed good blood for 100 yards. Started to get a little light, so we decided to back out to Dad's house to dump some gear and let her sit a bit.

Going to head back @ 3. That gives us almost 2 hrs of light, and if we haven't found her by then, we'll be waiting until morning anyway.

    That wasn't right!

Good luck in the search, is that the impact site? Can't believe she bled like that and you didn't find her in the 100yds. That snow is going to make things a bit easier as well

    Sorry, I couldn't resist :)

I was extra happy to hear he had shot. The pine tree was dumping slush balls on me almost constantly. I was soaked and not sure if I'd make it to dark anyway.

OK, so we followed the trail another 80 yards or so and found a bed, tons of blood, and more past it. 15 yards down, the arrow, washed clean with all the wet snow, but missing the front 3".

We backed out again until morning.

Then, just to kick me in the nuts, look who walked down the snowshoe trail while I was driving to Duluth for that last minute presentation on Thursday.

M***** F*****! He would have walked under my stand and offered a 7 yards 1/4'd away shot....

Then I get a text from Dad who had moved to another ladder. Guess who snuck in on him and was 3 yards from the base of his ladder. ?!?! His slug gun was hanging on a hook at the side of the tree. He couldn't get it down in time.

    :throw:

Thinking shoulder or neck hit? That was and sounds like a lot of blood. You thinking you bumped her? Hopefully the snow doesn't melt overnight

    Good luck in the morning.

Blade is going to look good on the wall. Thought it might have been whistler at first

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's shoulder. Looked to have been coughing up blood in the bed too, which is hopeful. Temps should be 28ish overnight. So hopefully everything will hold up for us.

Do you guys worry about the wolves in the area finding the doe during the night? You're so close to getting Blade! Did he run through when your dad saw him or what happened that he wasn't able to get his gun up?
