We just heard a wolf howling to the NW. Maybe 1/4-1/2 mile out. I bet we hear the whole pack by dark.

couple of questions Fitz..........how hard are the wolves on the deer herd ? With wolves being in the area of your stand on a given sit doesn't it reduce deer movement /sighting from that hunt ?

Todd had one hang up on him in the closing minutes tonight. It didn't like his grunt call

Great sit tonight. It was nice to be able to hear for once. It's been windy and or rainy for the last 2 weeks!

Back at it in the morning for an AM sit. Then the boys have to hit the road.

They take quite a few deer, but I wouldn't say they are hard on them. In fact, they keep the herd healthy IMO. No worries about CWD breaking out here :tu:

I also don't think they have a big impact on movement. Deer get used to any predator. Most times they watch the pack go by without incident. If they do get uncomfortable, they'll most likely wait for them to pass then calmly move to a new spot, but not too far. Realistically, wolves can cover a vast area in a day, and the packs are stacked pretty tight here. If the deer moved out of the area, they'd just be moving into another packs territory.

My brother shot his 1st buck up here an hour after a wolf walked by.

Well, it would seem the encounter last night got to them. Scheduled have been rearranged and they're staying another night :tu:

This AM todd is headed back to his ladder on Whistler's Ridge. Chase & I will jump in the canoe and sit in the Short Stack stand in the outlet creek. The wind is SW in the AM, then switching back to NW or even NNW this afternoon. We'll come back in for lunch, then all head back to the ridge for the evening. The SW wind isn't good for the part of the ridge that chase & I sat last night.

No, but between hearing antlers clanking against the brush and it's stiff legged walk, Todd was pretty fired up :tu:

Their decision to stay was wise.

Had a mink playing in the creek below us.

Moose way out in the swamp to our N. Couldn't get the camera on it.

Just when we think the wind is dying off, it picks up again, but at least the sun is out. Happy the leaves are drying :tu:

Not here. The wind is supposed to switch from the SW to N over the next hour or two. As soon as it starts to switch, we're gonna boogie.

We'll reorganize and head back up to Whistler's Ridge for tonight. We now know Blade is on that side of the lake.

Guess it starting now. We're outta here.

I'll let you know when we're back on the ridge.
