I went out last night and saw nothing in Central IL, then ran home and checked to see if Fitz had a new thread going...man have I missed this! I will be watching!

I'd just find a hunting partner who couldn't run as fast as me! Coyotes are unnerving enough!

Well, it's been a pretty slow week. Not much on the cams and the resort has been keeping me busy. I'm hoping to make it out tomorrow night, but we'll have to see.

I did make it out for a short mid-season scouting adventure the yesterday. I was able to cross a couple spots off my list, and found a spot or two with some promise. Put a cam one a new creek crossing to my north. Then, on the way back found a sweet little island spot in the middle of a swamp with rubs. Instant trailcam placement remorse. I may have to move another cam to this island. It's only about 15 yards by 30, but I can paddle right up to it. Biggest down side is there isn't much backcover. I'm still going to try and sit there before ice-up.

Here are some photos from that afternoon.

It's so beautiful there. That alone would make each hunt worth it.

Subscribed to this thread for sure. Can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for you. Ever do any cat hunting up there?

Never cat hunted. This is the first time in some 8 or 9 years of running cameras that we've ever gotten a cat on camera. Don't know that I will unless we start getting a bunch showing up.

Glad to see you're enjoying yourself Fitz! You got some nice photos. Maybe one of these days I'll buy a nice camera and start documenting some of my hunts/seasons. A lot of people probably prefer hunting farm country but there is just something rewarding to me to hunt the thick deep woods in Wisconsin by myself. I love that I never run into anyone. :tu:

Oh yeah, that same day the neighbor to the North stopped by. He's the one that had a couple big bucks coming in to his hay bale last December. He picked up a shed and I thought it might be Whistlers. Turns out that it's another buck!

Looks like he was another nice 10 pt. His G2 was starting to blade. I'd guess that he was 3.5 ish last year. Apparently he was bedding behind the neighbors shed all winter too. I'll be curious if he starts to show up in the coming weeks as they start looking for does. I'd like to see Whistler show up again too.

Do it Tim! And although a "good" camera will be nice, I'm just using my iPhone. :busted:

Well, I didn't get out hunting this weekend at all, but my brother was up and we got his stand hung for the rifle season.

The bad news is, we got busted. I'm I big believer that big bucks don't blow often, but I've never heard a deer blow that was so low. The wind was blowing across in a good direction, so I'm not sure how he busted us. The only thing I can think of is if once the wind hit the beaver pond, it swirled back and he caught a whiff.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was Blade. I'm pretty sure we were right near his core area. My brother put up two cams on the creek crossing right there, so hopefully he shows himself. The cameras however, most likely will not get checked until the day or two before rifle opener.

We have guests leaving today and tomorrow is the first full day of not having any guests since the end of May. I was planning on hunting, perhaps even all day, but the forecast looks pretty soggy. Guess I'll have to wait and see. It was 27 this am :tu:

How and where do you mount your iPhone for video use?

I use the Insane Archery camera mount- InsaneArchery :: Home

    I have an Xshot case for my iPhone4 - XShot iPhone 4 / 4S Case | XShot

Manfrotto now has the patent for the cases - Klyp - Photo | Manfrotto

I already have the Klyp case for my iPhone 5s that I'll be getting next week. I like these cases because you don't have to screw & unscrew the case every time. You can just clip it in, and its it the right position.

Here's an old photo of how it looks.

I like it because I can control my phone with my left middle finger even at full draw :tu:
