Keep your head up buddy. You worked your *** off in the recovery and that's a lot more than most people can say. Keep after it!! Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
That sucks, I'm sure you'll get them both on cam again. I just shot 3" under my biggest buck to date about 3 hours ago
Great effort on the recovery Fitz. Sorry about the outcome but I'm sure ull be getting some pics of him soon and hopefully another shot opportunity at him.
Gotta hand it to you Fitz...sounds like you worked your tail of trying to find him, more effort than most can say. I feel for you...had a different hit this year but I've been there, done that and not a single second of it is fun. Also, don't look at as he's got 7 lives left - look at it as if 3rd times a charm!!! Always positive!!!
What!? I just see this now! that's what ......nevermind... be me.....it took me over a half an hour to catch up So sorry to hear this, Bro.... I sure hope he comes up om camera for you
Late to the party as well. So sorry to heat this Fitz...I missed a once in a lifetime buck two years ago (piebald 8), and I know the feeling. Hope you find out he is at least ok. Keep your head up, bud.
Fitz, although I've never shot a monster like that, I have been within bow range of several top 1%'er bucks for my area and came up short each time for whatever reason. I felt dejected for months brother so I know what you are going through....hang in there and enjoy your season.
Ok, here's the latest plan. Both today and tomorrow are going to suck weather wise. 25 mph winds, mix of rain and snow. I'm going to pass on that! Looks like it'll start to tapper off Monday. So I'll keep an eye on the forecast and look to sit all or part of Monday & Tuesday. The only hitch there is that our car might be done getting it's new engine around then. Otherwise, Wednesday I pack up and head South to the cabin in preparation for the WI Rifle season. I'll be bringing both my Drenalin and my .270, so we'll see where I set-up. I'll probably use both through the season there. I won't be back here hunting until the 26th. I still have all of December to hunt too, season ending on the 31st. Other than pulling 3 more docks out today, my only other plan is to go swap cards in my cams. I'm hoping for a little closure on Weds' debacle.
Not this will cheer you up Fitz, but this morning I was watching a squirrel in a tree and took out a field pointed old arrow I had in my quiver. (just for this purpose) I am about to knock the fur off a tree rat and I notice something along the creek to the west. It is the oldest buck in our woods. Has to be somewhere around 12-15 points and long tines. I stand, switch arrows and get myself mentally ready. He comes straight in on a line. Maybe 30 seconds has now past, he is at 25 yards, 20, 15 10, and now almost right under me and still coming in straight. I am now at the point that I need to rise, turn and get ready to shoot on the other side of the tree. Then he catches my wind. He pauses (behind the tree) the jumps and trots off. I let out a Meeert and fire, just over his shoulder...then gone...no buck and still shaking.....back to squirrels
Not much on the cams. One of the little 8pts and that's about it. Dad's cam didn't have a card in it, and I'm not sure how to get it to downlaod to a card, so there could be something there. Glad I wasn't out today, it was pouring and thunderstorming while to was swapping cards. Pretty sdtrange for Nov. here. I'm glad the weather is crappy, hoping it surpresses their movement a bunch until it eases up and I'm back in the woods Starting to get my positive feelings back, just wish I had more time before leaving for WI.
Time heals all wounds Fitz, both for you and that buck. Both my buddy and I had a crack at some wall hangers for sure within a few days of each other last week but both ended in hundreds of yards of tracking but no deer. Mine happened first, picture perfect shot opportunity, just hit him slightly high. Tracked him for almost 300yds to nothing. My buddy (whom helped me track this deer, and offered words of encouragement afterwards) felt my heartbreak and disgust only 4 days later, hitting a bruiser buck in the exact same place i did. We tracked this deer for 700-800yds and he never bedded down once. Best we can do is learn and understand what we did wrong, and better prepare ourselves for the next go around. Hope this offers some encouragement to brush off those demons and get back out there with confidence and determination. BTW, I musta missed this part somewhere in the thread, but where are you hunting at? Looks awesome wherever it is.
I'm near Ely, MN. You can find details in this post --> http://forums.bowhunting.com/showth...ournal-Thread-*semi-live*&p=506484#post506484
