I do feel a bit naked in this ladder. I'm used to a lot more cover around me. Jury is still out on the ladder itself. It's the new 18' Leverage stand. It's well built, but so far not as quiet or easy to put up as I had hoped.
Only one 8 pt on the cam from the last 36 hrs. Hoping Blade & Whistler haven't gotten themselves into trouble yet.
Good luck. Hypothetically, if Nick shoots one just before he has to go, do you win the honor of cleaning and butchering the deer?
We'll have time That's a good problem to have! Though, I do owe him. The first year I introduced him to hunting, I shot a buck with my rifle. First thing I did when gutting him was slice the crap out of my thumb. He got a crash course in field dressing that day
Thanks MadMan! We had one more deer sneak along the opposite ridge this AM. When we got down Nick said he was going to leave his LW Assault here, so we took a quick walk across the draw to the other ridge and found a tree. That's where I'm going to set up tonight. I'll hang his stand there. As the crow flies I'll be a little further from my dad's ladder, but he'll be able to see me better. I found out that the deer are using an old snowshoe trail that travels along that ridge. No wonder they are so sneaky. One more shift in the plan, one step closer to success! Gonna start getting ready and see if I can get me a birthday buck
Ok I'm set up, and of course, I like it. Here's part of the trail to my 6 o'clock. And it continues to my 9... Then my 11 one last peek at the trail. Finally, 1 o'clock invade they take the trail to the ridge I was previously on. I can shoot some to my right, but it's pretty patchy in there.
We, I thought it was going to happen. Right at last light 4 deer came in from behind my dad. Two split and traveled between us. By the time the first made it to me she stepped right into my 1 o'clock window at 25 yards. I could only see her bald head and outside. The second deer followed but by the time it got there I couldn't see anything. It stopped in the lane, then chase trotted after the doe. The other deer had headed along the first ridge north. Fun night, just wish they had been 10 min earlier! Got back and had pizza and cake. MMMMM! Might get some snow over night. Possibly up to 2". I'm going to sleep in, but might sit out tomorrow night.
