We both passed on a doe just now. Hoping buck takes same route. Got some video.

Pretty slow since the doe encounter. The mink has been stalking muskrats for our entertainment.

    Two daylight bucks from yesterday.

Saw a second doe around 3:30ish. Not in bow range but I basically double my season's deer sightings in one day! :tu:

Headed back to the same set this AM. Want to see if I got the does on my camera. Expect brief updates from the field...

Wolves howling at the other side of the pond. About 275 yards away. Cool stuff!

Heard a moose grunting a few times about an hour after the wolves. Otherwise, it's been pretty quiet.

Just finished lunch. The sun is starting to peek through a bit, and it's welcome. These 18 degree mornings have been nippy.

Well we were skunked today. Changing it up tomorrow. Gonna stick to this side on the lake. Might try a ground blind in the AM, haven't sat in it before.

No ground blind today, and I'm glad we decided against it. We saw it was crushed by a limb when we walked by.

So a change of scenery feels good!

And nick decided to take out his DXT instead of the rifle today. I'm hoping karma pays off!

Saw two bucks chasing a does this AM! It almost came together!

First buck was a little 5 or 6 pt, the second was a nice dark antlered basket. Got down to warm up and game plan for the afternoon, jumped two more does on the way out. We're headed in to town to pick up some hand warmers, then we'll finalize where we're headed to the afternoon. All I know is that it will be somewhere near the ridge that all these does are bedding.....

Here's the two openings I cover in this set...

... This is the larger area Nick covers...

... And here's how we sit in two trees but use one set of climbing sticks...

When I first got into deer hunting it was all shotgun, because that is what we have to use here in Illinois. This year I have done more bow hunting than ever before. Seeing you guys bowhunting with the blaze on...well...it just seems wrong. I say leave the guns to Texas and out west in the mountains and make the midwest and upper midwest all bow! I just read 17 pages of this thread and I am hooked....it is like the best book I ever picked up! Can't wait....Blade or the 8 point? One has to be taken soon!

Nothing all night. Guess we missed our chance this AM.... one of those "if I could do it over" deals.

To be honest we're kinda bummed that we didn't put anything down these last 3 days, but it's hard to feel too bad, we had some awesome sits, and any time I can hunt with Nick is a great time :tu:

Not sure how much I'll make it out this weekend. I have a list of things to get done before I head to WI for rifle season. I'm going to head down Weds, so I have time to set up my stands and clean up our cabin from a summer & fall's worth of use.

The outlet & one bay of the lake have had ice on them for the last couple days. That means only one or two more chances at Blade this season.... unless the bottom falls out of the temps and we make good ice that I can cross before newyears.

    Tick tock......
