I've only had time to squeeze in 3 short outings this fall, but none have resulted in steelhead. A couple have been hooked with none brought to hand. This is one of the worst fall runs of steelhead in recent memory in my area. Swinging flies is probably a hard headed way to go after such low numbers, but I'm stubborn.

No fish to photograph leaves time for other subjects. A few from the last couple weeks.

I have been wondering how your steelhead fishing has been going. Your photos look great. The west side of MI is just amazing.

    Thanks guys.

There is just something about moving water. Its certainly a "refresh" button for me, especially after a busy week.

Nice pics! Have you ever stumbled and fell in that cold of water? Looks like it'd be enough to ruin your day.

Yes, but with the proper gear you really don't get that wet. Unless you really take a swim. If I just fall and recover quickly, water can really only go down the top of my jacket. The cuffs are sealed.

But yeah, I've taken a good float in upper 30 degree water. It will certainly take your breath away, and end your day.

The larger river is the Muskegon and the smaller is the Rogue. Both in west Michigan.

I love that first glimpse of river through the woods on the walk in. It never gets old, and its even better in the quiet stillness of winter.
