Berkley Powerworms in Pumkinseed or Motor Oil have "suckered" many a bass to my hands over the years.....
Sorry I couldn't answer your question on Facebook last night T-man... Probably comes from the fact that the first plastic worms were hard and made through an injection-molding process... And I've slaughtered more bass with a royal blue or navy with firetail combo than anything else.
My three largest Bass came from a Berkley Powerworm in Black Shad. I also caught a lot on the motor oil and pumkinseed.
Brett... I caught one yesterday on one exactly like that in your larger (and bottom-most) pic. That's what led to my Facebook post about how much I love fishing with plastic worms... and T's question.
My 7 yr old caught herself a 17" Bass on Friday using a Berkley Pumkinseed 7" Powerworm, I caught a 10.5" Bluegill on the "Motor oil" Green colored one I was using Saturday morning.... And my nephew caught a pair of 10.5" and 11" Gills on worms. A fun weekend of four-wheelers, fishing, cornhole, and drinking a few cold ones.... :D
Once I get some pic's downloaded, I'll post up.... My little girl was proud as could be. Fun to watch a 7 yr old bring in a nice sized bass like that....
I use lots of plastic too. When I'm fishing deep weed edges, or flipping heavy cover, I have been fishing Gambler Ugly Otters for a couple of years now. I find they last a bit longer than other creature style baits I've used, and their scent is pretty strong, I can still smell the garlic on my fingers from fishing yesterday. :D I fish Green Pumpkin when the water is fairly clear, and when visibility is bad or the sky is overcast, I'll fish June Bug. I fish these usually with either a 3/8 or 1/2 oz tungsten slip sinker and a 4/0 Gama EWG hook. When I'm fishing a lake that gets hammered by people throwing Senko's, I like the Strike King Caffeine Shad quite a bit. I'll use the 5" baits most of the time, but when a cold front comes through, or something just turns the fish off......I'll scale down to the 4" model. I fish them almost like a Senko, super slow.......they wiggle just like a Senko on the fall, but I think they look a bit different when you do put some action in them. I catch a lot of smallies and largies on these, and almost exclusively fish the KVD Magic or Pearl Blue Glimmer colors. I fish them weightless on a 5/0 Gama GLock hook. Last but not least, I fish a lot of Senko's too. I try not to depend on them, but they are absolutely one of the if not the best fish catching plastic out there in my opinion. When fishing suspended smallies in deep cold water lakes, we fish the 3" or 4" models. When fishing largemouths up north on Champlain, we fish 7" models. I love both Green Pumpkin/Black Fleck, and Natural Shad Colors. I fish all my Senko's weightless, and for the smaller models, I usually wacky rig them on a 2/0 Gama EWG hook. For the bigger models I'll usually wacky rig them too on a 4/0 Gama EWG, but will sometimes texas rig them when I'm throwing into really heavy cover, and then I use the Gama G-Mag G-Locks for 6" and 7" baits.
A couple pic's from the weekend...... Kate's Bass, she hadn't even brushed her hair yet, just trying to get out to do a little fishing..... Lil bit's fish... Kids sitting by the pond enjoying the day....
Thanks Matt!!! Couple more pic's.....Most of these kids are using plastic worms including the one who caught the BIG Gill...... Fish Ohio Blue Gill.... Kid's and BIG Kid fishing off the dock/deck.... My 7yr old still in her PJ's out casting for that next bass.....As her cousin remember how to tie that knot again.... :D
