We were up to Alexandria Bay Saturday for a few hours, we caught a variety of fish and had a great shore lunch. We did not eat any of the fish in the pictures.
Had a hell of a day today. Caught 30+ of them all post spawn cruising flats in 1.5-2’ of water on a hair jig. Only saw one other boat out there all day today and didn’t even turn the electronics on.
My little sister is coming up with her family for the weekend her youngest son likes to fish. I am going to take him out tomorrow morning in his quest for a 5 pound fish. I plan on going over and under I will have a sucker minnow out on a bobber and have him cast what ever lure. I am sure he will catch some bass casting and hopefully a northern with some shoulders hits the sucker minnow.
Storm 360 GT 3-1/2" shad pattern came thru again got the lad on his personal best bass. Nothing hit the sucker minnows kinda weird. Good morning caught fish.
Had a good morning landed 100+ fish. Wife and I were double teaming baiting and taking fish off for the grandsons. Caught a rare perch the rest were all sunnies some nice ones but mostly littles. When they graduate from the Spiderman fishing poles I will get them heavier jig heads to get down past the littles to catch bigger fish. I will teach them to filet before that to I am a lot of things at the lake but if you want fish for supper learn to clean them.
You can come up and stay and fish that's fine, I will use no electronics no anchor and fish out of a kayak. BTW I was not saying that it was said to me.
Wait: You said you could catch more fish on “our” lake without electronics. I call Harry S. Truman Reservoir here in Missouri.
You mean your sentence I quoted? I’m just playing Sota. My point is there are some reservoirs you almost can’t fish without at least a depth finder and navigation. Also, that’s really all I use my chartplotters for: Navigation, depth and water temp. It’s kind of hard to fish open water contours and structure on a huge lake without a sonar.
O I know but I also came from an era of fishing Lake mille lacs where you lined up the tower with the silo or other landmark and used a compass. not hard to find the windward side of a reef to fish. But I do get fishing deeper you need electronics. I watched a big fancy ranger go by yesterday with 2 guys on it, two big screens and they stared at the screen said there's one and started casting. I don't get that.
I have to agree with you on that. I am not even interested in getting the “forward facing sonar”. To each his own, but I think it would take a lot of the fun out of fishing for me.
Got after those sunnies and shell crackers this morning right at daylight. Hit the same SRA lake I went to last month. 1/32 jigs tips with worms. I brought home 18 quality fish for my big pond and was back at the house by noon. New genetics strain has always helped it in the past.
It's a challenge to catch fish without all the electronics available now. Did I fail to mention the expensive electronics? I checked Bass Pro shops. One unit cost more than my first bass boat I bought in 1983 at $4K. There is a question about forward facing electronics used in BASS tournaments. Keep or ban? When I fished and caught fish, I would mark an X on the front seat so I could tell where to fish again.
Went up the Northwoods this weekend and got on 'em pretty good! Brought home some good eating fish (see pictured), going to cook up a fish fry for the family soon.
I let the grandsons stay up late to feed the fish when it was dark out, then I broke the rules and let them fish by the light. My goodness they were catching slab sunnies, they all went back.
