Gives you the ability to connect with your phone and see exactly how much charge you have left as well as overall health of the battery.
Do any of you have the ability to catch fish no electronics? Straight up out in a boat no depth finder no GPS no spot lock?
Had a great morning on the water with my boys. Just as it was starting to get super hot and the pleasure boaters were filing in, my little dude smacked this nice pike. Solid way to end the morning.
So I am thrifty I will only pay cash for toys so I don't have new toys. When you have over 10 year old boats good luck finding a shop to work on your motor you have to learn to fix your own stuff. Transmission on the boat needs new clutch packs. I can bring it to a place and spend $2500 possibly more or pull the transmission myself and rebuild the transmission myself completely for under $600. Probably will use all my swear words up pulling the transmission, there will be blood but it gives me a project. Now I just have to nurse the boat till fall, keep it at 3000 rpm that will pull a slalom skier at just under 30 mph. Will not be pulling tubes at full throttle sorry kids no 40 plus mph tube rides.
I have some electronics on my boat and I honestly have no idea how to "really" use them. I'm mostly looking at the water temp, using the map to see where the heck I'm at, and using the down sonar to see what's on the bottom and where the weed edges are at. I'm a simple fisherman. TBH, I should spend more time figuring out my electronics. I'd probably catch more fish.
You all need to go out anchor a pontoon on the deep edge of a weed line, throw out a sucker minnow on a bobber and then cast cranks and spinners in the area, get buzzed on suds and relax and look around.
My first and only bass boat was bought in spring, 1983. I got lucky and got a Humminbird flasher for free. Sold it about 25 years ago. Too many idiots on the water. I now fish from the bank or trout streams.
Haha are you kidding me, just because you use technology doesn’t mean you’re a lousy fisherman. I use a phone to scout for deer too, does that mean I have bad woodsman skills?! Haha, you got that you young kids and your damn technology attitude. I can catch fish anywhere with anything, just like I can go kill a deer anywhere with little to no information. I bet I could put more fish in the boat than you on your own lake in the same boat.
You are way over thinking my response and mindset. My thoughts are people need to enjoy the moment quit staring at the screen. Love it at the end though I can catch more fish than you can on your lake. I am way past the **** measuring era of a man's life.
I’m just giving ya a hard time, yes I think a lot of people can do stuff without staring at a screen. I agree people stare at a screens too much, in houses and in the outdoors. Hell people won’t put their phones down at school events videoing their kids. I understand where you’re coming from, that said I use technology and still live in the moment and enjoy the moment.
I hope it stays calm today go for a pontoon ride. One of my favorite techniques on the lake is to just cruise like a regular pontoon cruise and when you get a boil of fish you cast into it. There are so many panfish on the lake and you will get a huge group of fish that just bolt. Cast the 2" sunfish crank bait and twitch it northerns and bass. My other favorite that really fits my style is the over and under technique. You anchor along the weed line 1 person throws out sucker minnow on a bobber the other person throws cranks, or spinners or top water, works I prefer being on the rod with the sucker minnow easier to drink beer and relax.
You fish rivers correct? That is my favorite place to fish. River fishing is visual you have to read currents to present a fly or bait in the strike zone, I think that takes more time to learn than using electronics. Also fine casting skills are needed. I also think that salt water fishing has ruined me as far as expectations when you head out to fish. You look and see what time low tide is, doesn't matter time of day. Head out to structure you can see and live fish minnows or shrimp and you will catch fish some days more than others but you will not be skunked.
Yep I’m a river/stream fisherman primarily. Dry flys, streamer are the goto depending on the time of year when I’m fly fishing. Then walleye fishing the river by the locks with cranks, harnesses and swim baits. SMB I like throwing top water walking baits, they’re just a blast when they blow up on em. I like the movement of the rivers over lakes, but still like to hit lakes.
When I moved to Tennessee, I bought the TVA navigational maps for Chickamauga Lake. The thing was to look for channels, dropoffs, humps, etc. The flasher did help there. Throw out a couple of weighted markers and fish.
