We are finishing up a new build on a small lake as a weekend spot and shop area. A couple of evenings ago, I took the golf cart down to the shore and threw a few casts and caught three bass. This one was pushing 6 lbs. I think I am going to like it here! When the house is done, I have a dock to put in so I can leave a fishing boat tied up this summer. In two weeks I am taking my oldest son down to Augusta to The Masters and also got invited to fish a private bass lake there. I hope to improve on my PB of 7.3lbs. If I do, I will put up a photo or two. The owner caught several over 10lbs. last year, so fingers crossed!
Decided I couldn't waste a perfect day for fishing with just yard work hounding me not to go. When I left the house the wife had the golf cart out moving wood into carport. Yeah I felt guilty! For about ten minutes... Then I decided I'd catch enough fish for Sunday dinner to smooth over the ruffled feathers Fish fry tomorrow
Went out with my nephews and daughter for youth trout opener in Pa , had a blast and caught a pile. left my knee highs at home, ended up huck finning it in the stream haha.
Dang my ugly stick arrived today. I was actually surprised for the price. Yes went with cheapest. A Shakespeare spinner. Handle on correct side. Very smooth action ,well so far with no fish on it. Even if I never "land" a fish in the kayak with it, just getting some nibbles or play on it will be fun enough.
Sounds like the dad and grandpa life, more time spent helping the kids fish than actually fishing yourself.
Gonna get the opportunity to jig walleye on the Detroit River next week thanks to the hospitality of one of the regulars here. Hope to have some pictures to share. There might even be blood trail pictures to the live well!
Trying to decide, it is my wife and myself our last trip fishing in Florida based at the family compound last time we use the kayaks. I am debating if we want to fish off the Sunshine Bay Bridge, actually the old bridge that has been made into a fishing pier. At a minimum I want to spend some time watching people fish there. My saltwater rods are medium action ugly sticks and the saltwater reels are size 3000 so far too light for bridge fishing.
Something like this heavy enough? https://www.pennfishing.com/products/wrath-ii-spinning-combo?variant=41966359937164
I won a big Penn saltwater rod and reel in a fishing contest out on Cape Cod a few years back. I used that set up a couple times and holy crap that was a work out, we use 8 pound test and circle hooks and just free fish with either shrimp or minnows I believe we get more bites on the light set ups rather than casting cable.
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and he'll sit in a boat all day and drink beer." Part of the fun of fishing is teaching others, particularly the kids, grandkids and greatgrandkids.
