Holy crap the weather forecast, friend was going to come over from Ohio to ice fish in February looking at the forecast the wheel house will not be on the lake.
Just down to the place in Florida where we fish you can always see the Sunshine Bay Bridge, south of Tampa.
Yeah on one hand it sucks no wheel houses on the lake there are usually 25-40 out there on a weekend, on the other hand good to see that many, many 8" crappies will not be kept. If all you do is keep 8-9" crappie that is all you will catch.
That is why I drive 166 miles a day to get home to watch the sun set over the lake. Watching the sun rise after a long week traveling that is worth it.
Well we had one weekend with enough safe ice on the farm pond for the kiddos to be out there. We went from 7” of ice made in about a week to being nearly wide open now. At least the kids had fun while it lasted. With no temps below freezing in the long term forecast, we are now looking forward to open water season.
Got up to Erie today to fish the tribs, water was coming down but was murky. Still managed to hook up with a bunch of fish. Was a fun day on the water! Here’s a couple from today.
DNR has issued no ice is safe warning guess we will be eating shrimp with venison medallions instead of pike back steaks next week end.
A lot of hospital and Dr visits this week led me to watching the Bassmasters open. Lake Ockeechobee: Scott Martin total weigh in at 83-5 for the record. I would like to know what it feels like to catch a few 9 pounders!
I visit my buddy in FL every couple years, a while back we rented a boat and hit Ockeechobee, that place is confusing as hell to fish. We got into some but a lot of the guys were using huge shiners under floats. Definitely a cool body of water to fish. Hoping to do it again this year
Being from Indiana I wouldnt know what to throw other than what I’m used to for spring or summer bass. Hoping to get a chance to fish that lake in the future. It would suck to have an 8lber blow up on a top water bait!!
