there was one portable on the lake this evening. I have said it before if you are the only person on the lake you are the idiot.
Will have to put some tip ups out on the ice for Christmas, I can sit by the fireplace, watch football and fish.
Almost 60 here and the pond is as clear as it can be. Wonder if I could catch a mess of redear for fish dinner tonight? Only one way to find out...
60 degrees here too and no winter weather in sight. This weather has me thinking about an early spring trip where I can tow the boat down south for a long weekend and try to get on some fish. Anyone been out lately?
Well the swans are back open water in the middle of the lake and several slush holes the ice is melted back about 10' from the shore. No ice making weather in the forecast.
Crazy ain't it? 2 weeks ago, the RedRiver between Mn ND was iced over. Now it rising with all the rain we've had. Have a few guys with coyote hounds. As much as I'd love them to come here, can't do it. Dogs could easily be lost by drowning. Tomorrow we ( a big group of guys n dogs) are gonna go to an area with no rivers. Then Saturday, I'm pushing bush for last minute deer drives. Deer wont or should not attempt crossing the river making it much better.
Heading to Erie Saturday for some steelhead on the stream, it’s blown out now and should be perfect for Saturday. Been tying a bunch of flies the past week to restock the arsenal.
I have fished for Steelhead/Salmon under this bridge numerous times ... this is one lucky SOB... glad he will be ok .... if youve been on I94 just east of the Bass Pro in Portage, you've passed over this spot ... btw, you can not park next to the interstate to fish here, you must park a 1/4 mile away, and hike to get there ... there are 3 good salmon streams in NW Indiana, this is one of the best, flows into Burns Ditch then into the big lake .. this portion of Salt Creek going down stream is fantastic, miles of stream, holes, fast clear water, high clay banks .. makes one think your not in Indiana any longer when fishing along it .. most of the fishing here is within our new Indiana Dunes Nat. We don't get very many days to ice fish. We have had 4 days this past week where we had 4 inches of clear black ice to test out. Fished Sat. for 2 hrs. And then this morning for a couple more. 75 total. Put away enough for a couple fish dinners for the missus.
I don't get it last weekend little to no traffic on the lake, no heavy houses out yet. Then again last weekend was nasty with the wind.
