Went fishing 3 times while up north this weekend. Found some nice crappies. The biggest is 11 1/2". Smallest, 9". Did that every time. Didn't keep anything below 9". Also found some respectable sunnies too. Had a couple fish fries. Gave some to Bev, a neighbor that keeps an eye on things for us. And Vance, the farmer that plants crops on some of our land. Need to keep them happy. I have a dozen filets for a couple meals and dad has enough for several meals too. Not a bad weekend.
I’m down at the beach, we been catching a lot of sharks at night. Had a red full moon last night and we got a 8 foot sand tiger, was a blast fighting it. Here’s a few pics. Can’t beach them bc they are protected so not the best pics. This was the biggest of the trip so far.
That looks like a blast. I assume you are using pliers or something to get the hook out? I can't imagine just sticking my hand in a shark's mouth to let it go.
Yes long pliers with a blade on the other end to cut as close to hook if it won’t come out, the hooks are made to disintegrate after a short period of time.
We were using full and cut blue fish mainly and some bunker for the bait. Back home now, shoulda went longer a week is never enough time!
I have an old fire buddy coming up Sunday to drink and eat steak, I think we will go out and throw some wacky worms
I was told of about launch incident. Won't mention who. Lake has a 10 horse limit. They come in one would say "hot", then cut motor a ways out to drift in. They get to shore and a mid aged Female Kayaker says is that a 10 horse motor you know that's the limit on this lake. He says no no it is not 10 horse it's 9,5 horse. Well it doesn't look like a ten. Then she said something else and he'd had it. For your information I actually live in this area, grew up fishing and boating on this like. I do not need someone that Kayaks and I'll assume lives in the city giving me motor size opinions. Well that caused a huffy little retreat. Though not before a BIDEN DID THIS sticker was slyly placed on her bumper...lol Boat launch drama glad we no longer deal with it.
O-ring is the only way to go. Prolongs the life of the worm quite a bit, and with the cost of Senkos, I'm all about getting as many fish out of them as I can! A couple of weekends ago, I was coming off the lake one Sunday morning as the pleasure boat traffic was really starting to pick up and the lake was getting choppy. Like a moron, I tied off to the pier that was parallel to the lake shore with the chop coming straight in on the side of the boat. I had a pair of crappy fenders out, and the pier was in decent shape, so I hoped the boat would be okay as I ran up to get my truck. I should have listened to my gut and not done it because while I was gone, the chop slammed the boat into the pier again and again. With the side-to-side rocking, the gunwale was going under the pier and then getting slammed up into the bottom of it. Well, there must have been a bolt, nail, or metal bracket of some sort up under there that absolutely chewed the crap out of the side of my boat. It looks like Wolverine took his claws to top the gunwale and the side of the boat. Literal gouges, not just scratches. I had to order a new set of decals from the Lund dealer, along with some touch-up paint. I pulled the decals (or what was left of them) last night and got it all cleaned up. Tonight I will touch up the paint and then re-apply the decals tomorrow. It won't be great up close, but from a distance, it should be alright. On a positive note, I slammed the largemouth pretty good last weekend. I couldn't seem to get on any big ones, but I caught a pile of them in 15-20 feet of water. Primarily on a drop shot and a few on a weedless Neko rig, which is one of my new favorite ways to fish. I spent some time playing around with my Helix and trying to figure out how to work that thing. It's truly amazing how finding small pieces of structure to fish can make all the difference in catching fish or not. IMO it's a lot like map scouting for whitetails.
