Or shooting a buck over a scrape. Or shooting a coyote over a bait pile. Or..., So catching fish on their "beds" is taboo now? Those are some dandy Crappies PM. Would love to have a freezer full of them!
Look at the Minnesota fishing season, the bass season opens when it does because of when the bass spawn.
The only way folks like me without a boat can catch and keep fish are when they spawn. I'm one of those guys who targets pan fish when they spawn cause I know I can catch fish and fill the freezer.
Been a bit hectic lately. Finally got out in a boat to fish. Not on ice. Lol. And....the weather wasn't very cooperative. Go figure. Dad and I went up to the hunting property to cut the grass and general maintenance. Between the rain showers we managed to get out Saturday afternoon. Tried everything we know with little luck. Found some bluegills. Nothing to brag about but, big enough to keep. Had a fish fry and dad took a few filets home. What more can you ask for? Even though it didn't work out like we'd hoped, it was a good weekend. Got away from the rat race and shared a couple of beers by the fire. I did get to see the coolest sunset in a long time. Couldn't say that if I'd stayed home.
My wife went out to dinner with her mom and sister last night so I was playing single dad. At the last minute I decided to load all three kids up and hit the lake for a few hours before this heat wave kicks in. Fish were on fire last night. We didn't catch any giants but we put 20+ in the boat in about 3 hours and had a blast.
I am going fishing this afternoon off the dock, going to dig some worms, heck I won't even have a beer.
Every day since I took my kids fishing for catfish last weekend, learning to catch monster catfish (25lb+) has been on my mind. Probably the closest I will get to catching big salmon, like I did when I was a kid, as long as I live in the south. Salmon fight so hard it can take an hour to reel in a 30lb salmon.
If on Facebook look up Show Me Catfishing Guide Service and watch some of his videos. I've been trying to get a coworker or two to split a float. Mainly big blues on the Mississippi around the St. Louis area. He used to do a lot of livestreams but not so much anymore, made me go out and buy some heavy duty gear that's just collecting dust. I also want to try some Flathead fishing, local lake here is a prime lake for it. Hometowm lake is known for some big blues as well, think a 78 pounder holds the record and was caught within last 2 years.
Been down at the new farm since Wednesday and managed to fish in our pond for a bit each evening after getting done with work. Caught a good one on Wednesday evening myself, both of the kids have been catching them pretty good too. This morning my son woke up early and decided to head up to the pond by himself for the first time with his baitcaster rig and a frog. He put a pretty good beating on them. I went up to check on him and he was unhooking the one in the picture below when I got there.
