Biggest cat I ever caught was just under 17 pounds. This was in the Bay of Green Bay. 50 feet down over 85 feet of water trolling for salmon at 2.4 MPH. Took me 45 minutes to get it to the boat. I've caught cats when trolling over structure but not at that depth!
I always used 6 pound test to fish the Mississippi, if you hooked into a cat you with had to dedicate a 1/2 hour to landing it or just breaking it off.
Thank you Ohio...I really needed a laugh today. " Mayor says ice fishing linked to prostitution". Hudson Ohio mayor of an "upscale" city stated at a city council meeting. "Allowing ice shanties on a city lake could lead to prostitution" lmao. ...
That being said both of my children were conceived during the March peak crappie run. No prostitutes but ice fishing can make one randy.
Listening to outdoor talk this morning and there was talk that fish are becoming conditioned by depth finders that they react, not sure I imagine it would depend on fishing pressure and depth of water. The lateral line in fish is something to ponder.
Next Monday might be a good day to try a few hrs on the river. Week of warming. I'm frigging excited.
I wish they had an envy instead of a dislike. With last weeks snow the lake is flooding again any place you drill a hole, going to be a crap show next weekend when all the houses have to be off the lake.
Snuck out for a few hours of ice fishing yesterday. Caught a pile of teeny tiny little bluegills, a couple of small bass, and one halfway decent pike on a tip-up. Nothing great, but it was a nice day to be out. My son ran around with one of his buddies for almost 4 hours and ended up getting a wicked sunburn on his face. Probably our last ice trip for the year - looks like things are warming up and I have some shed hunting/scouting that needs to get done. Hopefully we've got open water in mid-April. I'm done with this winter BS.
Realize that was a couple weeks old post, but mostly unsafe now in IL. I was up in Central Sconnie last weekend and there was still trucks out on Silver and Fish Lakes. Think Silver was 20"
