We have had over 50 people rescued from the ice or the water already this year.

Seems like a regular thing on lake Michigan, it is usually a wind shift that causes the break off?

Never updated my last fishing trip but ended up with my limit of 15-17" walleyes and the biggest I caught was just shy of 23". Had a little house issue but have that all welded back up and ready to get back out this weekend.

Not even on Lake MI. It was the Bay of Green Bay.

They figure a barge went through and weakened the ice. The wind broke it off from shore and away they went. They were more than a mile off shore when they got picked up. Don't think anyone went into the water on that one. But others went from top side to wet in seconds. They should be going to church multiple times per week. They were not prepared-luckily they were close enough to others and were seen going in.

Chased crappies on Sunday and came home with 5 10-12" keepers. Trying new lakes for crappies is always fun.

Heading to Leech lake Friday - Monday this week. Have a group of about 12 of us going. Rented a cabin and the older group rented 2 fish houses to use. We have a few houses as well so we can move around if needed.

Anybody else finding it hard to find weighted bobbers? I like to bobber fish walleyes and crappies and I like thill weighted bobbers, they are hard to find in sporting good stores, even if fleet farm shows them online they do not have them. I think it might be a lead thing but weighted bobbers are the best.

I've switched exclusively to Ice Buster bobbers for ice fishing. I thought I remember seeing a ton of the Thill bobbers at St. Cloud Scheels a few weeks ago, but can't confirm if they were weighted or not.

I use them in the summer, don't use a bobber ice fishing I am staring at a screen and jigging, makes it kinda hard to drink beer.

JB lures lighted bobbers are my go to now on rattle reels. Regular ice bobbers on dead sticks and no bobber on jigging rod.

I really like weighted bobbers for bobber and jig fishing rivers for steelhead. With a weighted bobber I just tie the jig straight underneath the bobber with a small bead to protect the knot, it works flawlessly every cast with no tangling, so the jig goes to the bobber stop depth every time. The ones I like are about 6" Styrofoam and I really like putting a 3" bobber extension on the top of them for better visibility on longer casts.
I haven't looked for any weighted bobbers recently, so not sure if they're scarce around here. I have to go to Sportsman's Warehouse in the next couple of days, I'd be happy to see if they have any and mail them off to you if you're desperate?

E-bay is my friend found a multi pack of thills. Thanks for asking though, appreciate it. I do love using bobbers river fishing watching the bobber drift in the current and when it stops moving, it's exciting.

It is a fun visual for sure.
Steelhead often give you a warning bump, so you know to be ready to set the hook, and then they come back and hammer it so the whole bobber/extension vanish. Easy hook sets when they're in that mood.

Ever use circle hooks? I use them saltwater fishing, I have thought about free lining with a minnow and bobber and circle hook.

I've used them for cat fishing, haven't ever used them for anything else. I usually just use cut bait and set it on the bottom though.
I'm not familiar with free lining? I'd guess that means the minnow is live bait and allowed free rein to swim around without weight anchoring it in a spot, but a bobber and bobber stop is used so you can see hits?

When we saltwater free line usually just a hook and a minnow, won't work at my lake because of weeds so I need a bobber to keep the minnow from diving into the weeds.

    Ah, gotcha.
When I first really started doing a lot of cat fishing on the Snake River here in my early twenties, when we'd keep a couple to fillet we'd always look at their stomach contents for bait ideas. Almost every one of them always had crawdads in them, so we thought catching some crawdads to use as live bait would mean some hot fishing. We tried it two or three times and never once got a hit while using them.
We were using them with a carolina rig. I'm sure the moment the weight hit the bottom the crawdad was just crawling under a rock where it would never be seen. I sometimes wonder how I managed to tie my own shoes in my youth.

Slow weekend with only bringing home 1 10" crappie, 1 13" crappie and a 15" walleye. Company was great though; we'll get them next time.

Neighbor 3 doors down managed to get a road plowed around the lake close to shore. I might get after it this weekend.
