Man I had a blast this morning. Rode my bike a mile in at dark and got to watch the sun rise again. After what I saw yesterday morning I decided to try out a top water frog this morning. Started off with a big gar mauling the thing right after sun-up. Followed by me locking into 2, 3 to 4 lb largemouths. Both of them spit the frog. Ended the day with aother big gar hammering the frog. Couldn't catch him either. Someone told me I needed to fill the frog up with water so the fish won't knock it around so easy. So a day in which I didnt catch a single fish, I had a blast!

Slowly figuring this place out. Caught about 10 sunfish on a top water popper and in addition to these 2 bass. I missed 3 other good bass, the last one being was about 5 pound large mouth. Figured out the hooks on my popper were dull. I'm a topwater newbie.

I really wanted to deer scout this morning as the temps are gonna hold below 80 until after 10. But my drive to catch an 18+ inch smallie is pushing me to the river. I did a map search and the 2 mile stretch of river I fish I noticed I missed a 500 yd long slot as the river splits into 3 parts due to islands. Top water for the win this morning!

20210720_085527.jpg What a beautiful stretch of river. I worked the original section I mapped but the top water bite was slow. One hit and I caught one small 12 inch largemouth. After that I took a different fork in the river back..looked like a small little creek dumping into the river. Well it was just another section of the river I'd never fished and it looked amazing. Switched over to plastic worms...I fished that 200 yd stretch and caught 2 smallmouth and 3 more largemouth. I with the water was up another foot or two..maybe this fall I'll spend an entire day working that area. Everything youd want for a big fish.

@virginiashadow are you just walking and wading? That looks like a great river system for it.

I took my 2 year old fishing again last night. He caught a mess of sunnys and I caught a few largemouth. I usually cast for him and set the hook bc he hasn’t got that figured out yet. At the end he wanted to practice casting. About 50percent of the time he can actually do it and cast 10-15 feet front the kayak. The others he just dumps right in front of him. On one of his successful casts he was reeling in and said I got one. I was like no you don’t. Then he reeled in a good perch. He has now caught a fish completely on his own. Now to teach him how to take a fish off the hook.[IMG]

Spent the last few days on the Muskegon River and Croton Pond.

The first night my son and i decided to make a couple casts at last light from the dock. My 2nd cast i hooked in to what was by far my best SM bass ever. In our excitement we hooked it up and released the fish without so much as a picture or showing the fam. We caught hell the rest of the night about the "supposed big bass"

The next day went went up river to play and we managed to catch a few good perch fishing below Hardy Dam.

That evening my son and I jokingly went back down to the dock about the same time. I tossed the same chatter bait into the same spot and be damned if I didn't pull her out again. This time we got pics. Lol. We couldn't believe it.

Picturesque! What is the acreage? Someone threw crappie in our small pond (1.75 acres) and it totally screwed up the bluegill and bass. Catfish are ok of course. Your pond looks plenty big for crappie though

Just got back from my cousins pond. We don’t go there often and who knows how many people fish it because basically anyone can go to it so I don’t think the fish have much chance to get big. B57F14C4-74B9-4E65-AEF2-9C912E715DF4.jpeg His house is about 20 miles from his pond. We caught a lot of small bass maybe the biggest one 14 inches but we caught a lot of them in the hour and half we were there.

It should end up being around 2.5 acres. I will only consider putting black crappies in the pond. White crappies will take over a small body of water in a fairly short time and throw things out of balance. You also have to be pretty consistent on a managed harvest of all species in a pond to keep it in good balance.

My wife is up by Walker fishing at her friend's family cabin. I sent her up with 1 mission catch 2 smallmouth in excellent condition over 18". My taxidermist friend in Arizona wants them to mount to use in competitive shows. My wife and her friend are slaying the smallies the last 2 days but they threw them all back. Today in less than a half hour a nice fat 20" and a 21" fat fish perfect fins they were coated in borax put in a bag and in the freezer. I sent my friend many pictures to show color and all that he is super happy. The guy is really damn good took 3rd place in the world 2 years ago in trout category. T&A Fish taxidermy.

Two fish of a lifetime for many smallmouth fishermen...in 30min. Incredible!
