This place might hold a 4 or 5 lb smallie. But it's not a great smallmouth fishery. Lots of casts and time to just catch a couple today. Pics make em look a lot bigger. 15 and 16 inchers. River fish put up a heck of a fight at 2 to 2.5 lbs.
Wife has been home sick she was sitting in the stairs by the dock and she said she saw the biggest bass she has ever seen swim by close to shore. She will probably catch that pig and I will have to look at it on the wall.
Took the family to a local river this morning. Turned out to be a pretty good morning for getting a late start. We didn’t start until about 9 am. 2 skip jack, 15 bream, and a 2lb bass that my wife caught on one of the kid’s bream rigs while my middle son was going to the bathroom. I hooked one of the skip jacks for my three-year-old and let him reel it in. I have to go fishing alone if I actually want to catch anything. I spend the whole time helping my kids when i take them, that is a great thing.
My 3 year old caught his first crappie off the back of the kayak. That little fish is an absolute trophy to him!
Spent 4 days in the UP of Michigan with the family over Memorial Day weekend. Water temps ranged from 58-62. We hit the smallmouth spawn just right and slammed them good. I didn't even keep track of how many we caught. Almost all were in that 2.5 - 3.0 lb range. Didn't get any giants, but we had a hell of a good time. Pretty much everything came on a ned rig, Senko, or a hair jig for the ones that were a little finicky. Spending a few days up in Sturgeon Bay this coming weekend with @Rick James on his fancy boat. Hopefully,he can put those electronics to work and find us some fish.
The world needs more pictures of kids holding fish and less of them holding participation trophies. Every year, the second weekend of June is free fishing weekend in Arkansas, no license required from noon on Friday to 11:59pm Sunday night. On Saturday morning, the hatcheries in the state open up to let a limited number of kids fish the hatchery ponds with a three fish limit. I was able to get my family registered yesterday. They are letting adults participate this year and catch a limit of fish. I picked up a new heavier duty catfish rod at Bass Pro yesterday in anticipation. Most fish are in the 3-5lb range, but every year, a few people plus fish that go 15+. The new rod is rigged with 25lb test line will be set up with a bigger hook specifically for catching one of the bigger cats. I am hoping at least one of my boys will pull their first 10+ fish.
My oldest son is a trooper. We had to be on the road by 10:30 am yesterday to make it back in time for his baseball game last night. We got up at 4:30 to be on the lake by 5:30 and fish for a few hours before hitting the road for home. Never complained once and was super proud of himself for catching a few fish all on his own. 90% sure I'm upgrading to a little bigger boat next year that will more comfortably fit the entire family. My daughter and youngest son are starting to get jealous that the oldest gets to tag along all the time and they don't.
May belong in best things in life but this evening I just tied a crank bait on without my glasses. Thru the loop 7 twists and close it, think I did it more on feel rather than sight. 6 pound green trilene XL
Heading to Craig Lake State Park in the UP for a canoe fishing/camping trip this weekend. Leaving Sunday and staying a week. Can’t wait! I’m jacked, jacked to the tits!
Nice! I love it up there. We're in Crystal Falls, so about an hour or so South of where you'll be at. If the deer hunting wasn't so bad I would consider moving up there. :P
Might be the biggest sunfish I’ve ever caught . Giant female on a bed. Obviously threw it back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My parents pond used to be stocked with those. I think they were considered “hybrids”. Aggressive as hell and their big mouth is nice when your digging a rapala dt-6 out of their face.
