Yeah I would get a good fishing kayak for yourself, and then get a cheap Pelican or Otter for the wife or kids to play around in.
Your reading my mind lol...I am leaning in that direction. My conclusion is that I can get a kayak to serve both needs however from a fishing stand point I would rather have a specialized rig...yes I am picky.
I love the Ride from Wilderness system. I have sold atleast a handfull of them from our store and have not had a single customer unhappy. We also sell the Hobie Pro Angle which is a really nice boat and all but for the money I like the ride better. I have flipped the ultimate12 in my first outing while converting it from kayak to canoe. Id stick to the wilderness system boats I have worked with their customer service a lot since I am a camping manager at a large sport store. However, I would schedule a time to use all the boats on the water
Sorry to oddly revive an old old thread. Was just wondering what you got Trial. How do you like it? Also if anyone else has any updates or anything else to add, let me know. Will be in the market (I hope) in the spring. Pretty sold on Jackson (havent picked which one) but always open to ideas. Thanks!
This is what I went with, had it out twice already and love it. http://nativewatercraft.com/boat.cfm?id=9
Awesome! I was lookin at that too after reading this thread. Good and stable standing? I dont do much fishing sitting, Im a bass fisherman, we dont sit lol
I bought my Coosa last spring and fished out of it 2-3 times a week last summer, both casting and flies. It takes a little time getting used to sitting up higher and being above the water (especially coming from a sit-in kayak). I tipped over the first time I tried to stand up, but I have a much higher center of gravity being 6'5" and almost 240 lbs. Luckily it was warm weather and we had already been wading the river. I find it very easy to fish from and I have even used it duck hunting a dozen times this season. It is great for what you mentioned in your original post (slow-moving rivers, lakes and ponds), but I would have to agree with Hooker if you plan on using it at all for open water, a Cuda would be much better for tracking and long distances. I have made a few small adjustments on mine and plan on adding a chain drag anchor system this upcoming year like they show on their website. My buddy uses a wilderness sit on top thats 3" longer. Its not as heavy as the Coosa, and he can cover long distances a little faster than me, but he lacks a lot of the storage that I have. Best of luck to you and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm better with a rod and a kayak, than I am with a bow and arrow! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Hey these aint just for fishin either. I use my 2 person sit on top for solo bowhunting remote river stands. Super silent way to get to your stand and you can float out what you shoot. Deer sometimes stand and watch as i float by. Would be killer for gun hunting but in northern wisconsin the water is often hard or low in nov. If I bought another it would be green or camo.
The Ultimate is VERY stable. I stand and fish from mine 90% of the time. Sometimes when I'm just casually fishing, I'll throw my legs over one side and cool off. Ive bow fished out of my Native and have never had an issue. Hell, I've been more than slightly intoxicated and still haven't flipped thIs thing. Not smart I realize but my buddy and I have some good times when we go out. You won't be disappointed with the Native!
Yeah price seems to be a bit better also. Gonna try and see if I can find a place to try them out...not sure if there is anything close like that. Thanks a ton for the input. The standing is the biggest thing for me so thats great to know.
No, unfortunately I wouldn't have enough room. Maybe a fawn. :D I bought mine secondhand from a guy and basically added everything that the "Angler" edition has. I added two rod holders, anchor trolley (a must for river fishing), paddle holder, and made a camera mount. I love my setup!
