I was 100% tick-free all summer thanks to my new discovery... well, it's not "new" but it's "new-to-me" this year.

Treat your outdoor clothes with a 0.5% Permethrin solution. Same thing that is in the special US Military uniforms, and it gives 100% protection from ticks, fleas and chiggars for up to 5 washings. I scouted through some of the worst brush in Virginia this summer and didn't have a single tick on me, except the day that I didn't wear my permethrin treated shirt.

Absolutely NO SMELL so it won't scare away deer, and it gives pretty good (but not perfect) protection from mosquitoes and no-see-ums as well. Many folks that travel overseas use Permethrin treated mosquito netting, and also typically use a permethrin treated mattress cover to avoid bedbugs and other creepy crawlies in the third world.

Been used since the 70's with no side effects... HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS UNTIL THIS YEAR??? It's the best thing since sliced bread, my friends.

I figure that with the problems of Lyme disease being so high, the extra hour or so to prep my clothes and gear is a good investment.
