Well this morning I shot my first turkey right before 7. This was me and my friends first time hunting. After, we shot the bird we were not for sure what to do next. We did not gut it in the field but brought it back and put it on ice. I then had to go to work and it has been sitting on ice most of the day. What should I do now. I have gotten on the NWTF website and they have the instructions to clean it, but I am afraid the meat is spoiled now because I didn't gut it in the field. So did I mess up or will the meat still be fine to eat.
It is still good meat, you don't necessarily need to gut it unless you are going to cook it butterball style. just rip the feathers against the grain and just cut the breasts out, those are the best part of a wild turkey. place the meat in a bowl or container of cold water and let them soak and just clean them up a bit. hope that helps! if u have any more questions just holler!
