I had a guy give me a trail cam today. I am puting it out tomorrow well, today simce it is almost 1:00am now. I was going to buy one but, since he gave me a free one and another guy is giving me two more next Tuesday. I am strapped for cash and am thanking God for this blessing and am going to hold off and buy a few more next year. I can use that extra money on a few other things I may end up needing for the season. They are all flash models not IR's. I have heard some say they may spook the deer. I plan on placing them about 6' up and angel them down. If this is the case is there anything anyone would suggest I remember when setting these up?
Everything I was going to suggest and more can be read at the following link. I try to abide by these recommendations every time I set out a camera. Also, I used to set the cam in place and take a test pic just to make sure I had it pointed where I wanted. Now, I pretty much know where it is going to take the picture. Something to keep in mind. http://www.chasingame.com/index.php?id=4
Wear a condom. OK, I'll add something of value (hopefully). If it's a flash, I personally would try to put it about 8-10ft high. Also, place it so that the deer will be walking away from the trail camera, so it even more inconspicuous.
Congrats on the cameras. I am goin to try to get me a few come tax time. Everyone I know that bowhunts uses them and loves them. I will be getting wildgame innovatons trail cams $120 better than them crazy priced one
I didn't read all of this before I put it out. I placed it facing south about 7' high angeled down 15' from the center of my mineral station. No folliage or limbs with in 30 feet and only a couplle small trees that would take a good strong wind to move it. It is also in a possition it could catch deer that are passing on the trail. If these are as addicting as bow hunting, my personal life is screwed. lol
I can see this already. Its been out about 12 hours now and I already want to go check it tomorrow. I am in that area regularly on the ATV anyways and think I might go check the pic count mid day tomorrow. I will spray down before I do though.
A lot of guys worry about the flash bothering deer, in some cases it may, im not disagreeing. however if any of you have the chance you should pick up Barry and Gene Wensel's newest video, I believe it's called Primal Dreams. They have video of an absolute stud standing in front of a flash camera at eye level for multiple flashes. He never spooked however was very curious, and eventually just continued his way across the field. pretty cool footage I thought. and the Wensel bros put together a bow hunting vid like no other so check it out anyway!
This one is a cheap Wildgame inovations fro Walmart. I had a guy who isn't hunting for the next probably 4 years give it to me yesterday. He is a senior in HS and is going into the Marines when he graduates early this coming year. It did pretty well for him last season and it was free so I figured I would use it. Another guy is giving me two older Moultre's this coming week and they are also flashes. I was planning on buying one but, since I have been blessed with three free ones I figured I will wait till next season. I will post pics as soon as I pull the card on this one. Thanks for everyones help on this one.
