Hello everyone, I have the opportunity this year (9th season hunting) to hunt late season (starting after gun deer) a couple of questions: are there any different tactics i.e. Sitting vs spot and stock, which calls to use? Would it be bad to move my stand (thinking about it this Monday after gun, it has been a dud. Lots of pics but nothing showed even on all day sits)? #manymistakes #alwayslearning
    Thanks

Food is the most important late season consideration.

Food. But the deer are field shy and may not enter till after dark. Here in Kansas they will have "staging areas " back in the brush where they may work into while day light. They are often off their normal trails due to the pumpkin army invasion so well used trails may not be used. Spot and stalk is harder because the deer are used to being jumped and shot at and takes a few weeks for them to unwind.

No substitution for food and hours in the stand

Just moved one of my stands overlooking a picked corn field specifically for late season.

We even made a "staging" area where the deer can come in to a clover plot before entering the corn field. So far, it has worked to a T. We'll see how it does now with late season coming on. It's the same place I killed my buck, earlier this season.

As others have said find the food. If you do my have any food find the major trail leading to and from the food and set up on the downwind side of them. Maybe even make a couple observation sits to see what trails and areas are used the most. I let my cameras observe for me a lot of times and move in on the coldest and most high pressure days I can

I love late season public land but usually am hunting with a rifle. I know a few good bow setups though. Doe groups and food sources...bucks will be on the food sources too

No grain fields within 3/4 mile from the bedding area but with the mild weather there is still a lot of green grass in the thinner timber areas. Hoping they will work those areas after the orange army get through with their range war games in couple weeks. One last sit this evening till the 18th when bow opens again. I don't do much early morning hunts as I don't trust myself climbing in the dark, especially if there is frost on everything. Evening still has enough light to get out of the stand before total darkness.
