I pretty much mentally pushed my son out of football this season for a number of reasons. I kind of led him toward bball and soccer and he likes both of them very much. However, he needs a truly physical outlet so I contacted one of my old training partners who owns his own martial arts school and is a black belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu. I took him to one bjj class and he loved it. However, once I found out about the prices, I knew my family could not afford it. Well the owner asks me how much I could pay for the both of us to train b/c he really wants me back on the mat at his academy. I told him there is no way in heck I could even pay for one of us to train at full price, and I would prefer that my son trains if he is going to give us a discount b/c my son comes first.

The guy gives me and my son a 75% discount. He told me he wants me back on the mat and I really need it for my new job. I have never really been "hooked up" before in my life as I am terrible salesman and feel terrible asking people for anything.

    WOW.

Sounds awesome! I used to teach Korean to the Tae Kwon Do school in return for my son getting his lessons for free.

Fantastic. See what you can do to return the favor.

Got into Tae Kwon Do a few years back and want to work my way to a black belt someday. Really enjoy everything about it.

Keep us posted on your progress.

    Very cool.

When my kids were young, their TKD instructor offered to teach the parents for free in exchange for helping keeping order, helping with drills, warm ups, etc.

Im glad you met a wonderful person who was able to help you out, its tough to come across these kinds a people. Well atleast thats my luck. I used to do BJJ & MMA but I now mainly kick box. Its a wonderful sport, I believe it challenges your body better than any other sport.

That's cool and you'll be glad you did it. It’s a huge boost to their confidence, self esteem and instills discipline, good habits etc. Not to mention flexibility, stamina and strength. We put our daughter through Tae Kwon Do and it took three years, but she made first degree black belt. It is expensive and a big time commitment. I wish my parents would have put me in martial arts when I was a kid. Not great picture quality below, but I made this window box for her belts after she completed the first level starting with white at the bottom and black at the top and her graduation certificate in Korean on the right. It's nice to get a good break once in a while and good luck with it man!

Brett, from what I know you treat people as you would want to be treated. These are the kinds of things that happen when you are a very good person and you are a very good person. As I said to Brad, as long as we have citizens like you guys in this country, I have no worries.
