Well I was shooting this morning and heard a little noise on my bow before I released an arrow. I thought it was from one of the cams or something. So I attached my release and did not load an arrow thank god. When I came to full draw I heard the noise again, then BAM, the string loop burst, my bowstring blew in half, then my top limb shot off my bow and landed about 5 feet in front of me. Good lord. I inspected everything on the limbs and they do not look cracked at all. I needed to get my bow restrung anyways. I hope when I take it in that they don't find anything wrong with the bow or I will have to purchase another one. Never in the last 9-10 years of shooting bows have I ever had anything like that happen. Inspect your equipment guys.

BHF, I have no idea. The split limb from my Reflex detached and flew off. I was absolutely amazed.

Seven, the explosion was so violent my bowstring snapped in half and allowed the cam to be free of the string then detach from my bow. I should have known not to redraw my bow. My first 4-5 shots at 30 yards were 3 inches low. Then I heard the noise. I should have put two and two together and been more catious. Something did snap back and hit my left wrist and forearm and it hurt pretty bad but I have no real damage thank god.

So what actually broke besides the string? Something like a bolt or something had to have busted for this to happen aye"? Probably scared the hell out of ya!

Wow that is crazy, I just got my bow restrung also because my was fraying and if I continued to shoot it, I probably would have ended up doing the same thing.

For something THAT catastrophic to happen I almost think something else had to fail. Otherwise it was basically a dry fire. Which I know can cause damage, but typically you dont see an entire bow explode.

I realize its after the fact, but I was always taught to avoid drawing your bow with your release unless an arrow is ncok and you have a safe place to aim. If the bow blew apart from the dry fire, having an arrow knocked would have prevented that from happening.

Rybo, I am going to take it into the shop next week. I just looked it over again and nothing else looks broken. My string loop popped in half I know that...the rest I will have to try and figure it out. The bolts look fine and so does everything else. I was worried about having an arrow in the string in case something happened.

First of all, I'm glad you're ok...

I'm still trying to figure out why you drew your bow without an arrow loaded?

Glad your ok man. I seen almost the same thing happen at the G2G with Siman08/OH His didnt break but had a bad spot and the string slipped through the release jaws making the bow jump out of his hand. luckly it didnt come apart like yours. Hope your bow is ok!!!

    Typical Hoyt string loop.

If you'd have been shooting a High Country string loop, this would have never happened.

glad you ok. If I draw my bow with the release, it's with an arrow just incase. It doesn't sound good Brett. I hate to say it, but a dry fire is never good, you know that. But look at it this way, this is an excuse to tell the wife you nedd a new bow, this was is just too dangerous and you would not want to leave this world because of a dangerous bow, it's that important.:d

I think your biggest mistake is that you didnt have an arrow nocked. When my loop slipped through the release, it basically just shot like any normal shot, but since i didnt have a wrist sling at the time (do now) and i didnt have a death grib on my bow it shot forward about 7-8 feet. Didnt cause any damage cept' to me ego

Then Dan was nice enough to tie me a new one :hail:

Lesson learned then. When I sense danger I don't usually add a weapon to the mix. That is why I didn't put an arrow on the rest. Sounds logical but I guess in the end it was not. Like I said before, nothing even close to this has ever happened to me before while shooting.

Landon, you are probably right, I need to get a new bow "just in case". :)

BTW, I am having a terrible week. The truck went down 2 days ago when a break line sprung a leak. Add todays mess with my broke down truck and life isn't that fun. :(
