Well I got home today and in the mail was my first ever turkey tag! Well this is the first year I have ever applied or even wanted to try to hunt turkey. I live in IL and I was given 5th season in Mchenry county. Are there any IL guys that know of areas to go turkey hunting? I only chose Mchenry due to it being close to where I live and not knowing any other area.

I was kinda looking forward to getting out to hunt this spring. I hope there are some options that I can work with and get out. As usual any and all info is appreciated. Thanks!

Check the Chain O Lakes. However if i remember correctly, no turkey hunting there. I honestly dont know of any public land in Mchenry county. Il be hunting in Harvard this spring and I see turkey here year after year in the spring. There arent a ton but theyre out here.

I am not sure that there are any public areas at all that do not require a special permit.
most of the spring turkey spots I know of on public are a special tag not just a county tag

Thanks for the reply's. I was afraid I would be out of luck. it was a last min decision and looks like I might be out of a tag.

How close are you to other states? You may want to try your luck in somewhere like Missouri, Kentucky or even Arkansas. I guess that also depends on how set you are on bagging one this year.
