I don't have any of the furnace weight, but I love all of my Firslite base layers. Fuse quarter zip top, kiln hoodie and kiln boot top lowers. That hoodie saved my bacon last year and it is very comfy. I'm able to layer less and they don't build up stink like some synthetics. I try to catch them on sale (just had one) or get them on ebay when possible (not the baselayers tho, no thanks). I have more of their stuff, but the wool base layers are some of the best stuff I've ever owned and well worth every penny. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
A few things. Imo get the hoodie. You will be surprised how "thin" they feel if you get it, but it is deceiving. And I wear this stuff all the time in cooler months and it is ridiculously comfortable with no itch or scratchy feeling. I was skeptical, but it is the real deal as far as I'm concerned. First lite is awesome gear but if I were only looking for base layers, I would go with Minus 33. Their expedition weight base layer is a heavier wool than first lite and costs quite a bit less. It is the most comfortable next to the skin garment I have ever worn. Sent from my RCT6703W13 using Tapatalk
I dont find them running too big or too tight. I am roughly 5' 10" and 165 lbs. I went with the Mediums. The arms are not too long, but the torso gives you enough room to wear a shirt under or next-to-skin. The long johns are very nice and comfortable, with enough length in the legs. Their website allows you to check reviews and other peoples sizing to get a good idea what size will fit you well.
Bottoms: Fit to size, extremely warm. Top: I have the quarter zip Furnace, it runs just a little big imo. As in plenty loose to wear a base layer underneath and still have room. I wouldn't size down, but it will not fit snug. For cold weather, it's the only mid layer you'll need.
I do love Minus33 for baselayers...I do wish they would include a hood on a mid to heavy weight version though...haven't looked in awhile maybe they have by now.
