    Hey All,

This will be my first attempt at a food plot. A friend of mine has agreed to let me hunt his property out in the county. (Turkey and Deer) It is not a huge piece of property but there are some nice bucks that come around there. Caught a few of them on a trail cam. I will be hunting the back end of his property that butts up to four other properties. (Which he has already talked to those land owners for me) I suggested the food plot to keep the deer out of his garden, and to keep them in the area where I will be hunting. He loved that idea, so I just need to know what I should plant, and where to get it from?

    Thanks!
    John

What do the other land owners have planted around you? Corn, Beans, Alfalfa?

Also, what kind of equipment do you have to put a food plot in? How big of an area are we talking?

The guy that is letting me hunt has all the equipment to put the plot in and I guess it would be around 200 feet by 100 feet, somewhere in that neighborhood.

I would do 1/2 of the plot in brassicas, and 1/2 in a cereal grain planting (rye/oats/wheat). That way you will know the deer will eat something in it. You can see what they prefer in your area.
We have a great brassica mix for a good price at www.northwoodswhitetails.net
