Had 4 Does come by before this bruiser came in, Originally shot him for a 5 or 6 pt hard to tell in pick but he does have another pt on the left side. One quick question on him there are 8-10 bucks on my property that look just like him 2-3 pts on one side and a spike on the other, we have them all on camera. Do you think this is genetic or what? just wanted to get some feedback. I hunt in florida so this is a big deer he is about 2.5 yrs old. thanks ahead of time for any input.

Are you sure about the 2.5 years? I don't know much about Florida deer, other than they have small bodies. Up here in IL he would be considered a year old (18,19 months) Either way, congrats on the successful kill. I do believe Genetics’ have a major affect on antlers. Most of my 1 to 2 year olds on my property have similarities, especially to some of my 3 to 5 year olds. Every once in awhile I’ll see a buck that looks out of place, but usually during the rut.

I have been watching this one Buck for about three seasons now he is always hanging out with his brother that looks identical to him but the spike is on the left instead of the right. And Thanks.

First off congrats on the kill!

But I have a hard time believing that deer is 2 1/2 yrs old. I know you said you have seen him for 2 yrs now but could it be that you could have been seeing another deer?? Did you check the jaw bone?? Just asking not trying to start anything. Florida deer hunting can be hard and yes we do have smaller deer but with good sound management you could have bigger deer than that but if thats not you and you want to shoot the smaller deer then more power to you. No judgement here.

Yes I do believe that those are the same genetics.

I Didn't check the Jaw Bone, and I could be wrong and it may be a different Deer, there are 8-10 that are 2.5 to 3.5 yrs old and they are not getting any bigger. why I don't know.

there are some reall nice bucks on the Property in the 110-120 class. I only get to hunt 3-4 times a year on this Property so I take advantage of every chance I get, If I am able to Hunt it more often my mind frame may change but until then I'm just looking to fill the freezer. this was only my second sit since the opener on 09/17

Can a Deer not get any bigger after they are 2.5 or do they always grow larger.

and to clarify my last statement, I know the Majority of Deer grow larger but is it poss for them not to grow any larger after 2.5

I think the norm for 1.5 years is 30 to 110 inches, 2.5 years is 110 to 120 inches, 3.5 years 120 to 140 inches, 4.5 years 130 to 150inches, 5.5 years holy bambi on roids 145 to 200 + inches, and so on.

I'm not an antler expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

But the questions is would that hold true here in Florida??

I am not an antler expert either but I slept on the Couch last night.

Healthy deer should continue to gain inches every year until they are 6-8yrs old then they will start going down hill and losing inches but most deer dont live that long in FL. To use selfbros example and apply it to FL deer a 1 1/2 10-50in, 2 1/2 30-80in, 3 1/2 50-110in, 4 1/2 70-130in, 5 1/2 100-160in. The low end would be for a public land non mangaged deer heard. The higher number would be for a heathy deer herd on a very well managed private piece of property. But that is really a perfect senario. Most deer are somewhere in between those numbers in FL.

Thanks for the breakdown Nate. the 110-120 class deer we have are probably 3.5 to 4.5 years old.

nice try but the body on that deer looks like a 1.5 defiantly not a 2.5. but good kill.
