Well WI bow hunters any luck on the first day? I saw a doe come in about 30 minutes of being in my stand this morning but it was the size of my police k-9, so yeah didn't shoot that one. Second doe I saw was about 0830 and she was a nice big one, thought about taking her but just as I was narrowing in on her, a fawn walked out behind her with spots that were barely visible, but nonetheless still there, so didn't take her either. Lemme know how you did!
I didnt get a chance to go out yesterday but im going out tonight for the last 3 hours and im pumped!
Morning nothing. Afternoon hunt a buddy and I went to check some public land because wind was crappy. Bumped 3 deer going in and didn't see anything else. Got a bad cold today and was up all night blowing my nose so I didn't go this morning but will be going to the drug store so I can get out for the afternoon hunt.
Scottygrape I wish you the best this afternoon, I too am going to try to get out, unfortunately it's supposed to rain, so I'm going to play it by ear. Headstrong I would just take care of yourself brother, it's a long season, don't let it turn into something worse on you. Good luck guys, keep in touch on how the upcoming days go for you.
See my post from the "live in the stand" thread. Squirrel hunters ruined my hunt. It was a nice evening to be out in the woods.
Is it worth hunting in the rain? Someone said it was pointless cuz they don't move at all. Is this true?
The only thing to do in the rain in my opinion is stalking...other than that it is pretty pointless because they are bedded down. We aren't having the best weather today that's for sure...I'm gonna probably try a late hunt but assuming it'll be pointless.
not much down here in sauk county......luckily it didn't rain yesterday but I was only out for 3 hrs Sat morning. Didnt see anything 'cept for a few fox squirrels and a coon.
Did some stalking yesterday in the rain and spooked up a couple doe but none I could get a shot at with the trees and bushes but hoping to today or tomorrow.
My hunting buddies and I got out early Saturday morning to enjoy the beautiful weather. What a great day to be in stand. I didn't catch a glimpse of anything but squirrels Saturday morning but the afternoon was much more eventful. I got to stand at about 2:30pm and about an hour later had 2 bucks come in from a corn field about 45 yds away -- one following the other. They had no idea I was there. I put the bino's up and saw they were both just basket racks -- they were probably 2 or 2.5 yrs old. I watched them walk out of sight toward the pond at the SE end of the property. At 5pm, my buddy texted me that he had just whacked a nice doe -- as I was texting him back, he shot another doe that came in minutes later behind him. It was a great opening day 2011 as we had some work on our hands to track, tag, gut, drag, register, and process these deer but as a hunter, it's all in a day's work! More to come in 2011!
