Got my first buck Saturday morning on a quick little hunt. This is my second year hunting at all and I have been waiting for a decent one. I work night shift and usually get off work around 7 in the morning, I figured with this cold front moving through I should try to get to my stand as soon as possible. So, I came home and took my shower and headed up to my stand which I had left in the woods from my hunt the evening before. Got to the stand at about 8 AM and at 930 the biggest buck on my property walked out of the thicket. I was completely unprepared and had very little time to react. I stood up and grabbed my bow, then he stopped and stared me down for what felt like forever. I held as still as I could until he started walking again. I drew my bow when he was behind a couple trees just before he got to my last opening for a shot. At this point, I was completely turned around in my stand. My heart was pounding so hard from the time he walked out and especially when I thought he busted me. I tried my best to calm my heart rate, set my anchor point, and squeezed the trigger. He was quartering away and standing maybe 10 yards from my stand. I let the arrow go and immediately saw he was losing a ton of blood (I had never seen a deer bleed this much). He ran about 30 yards and I got to watch him crash. Even better, he ran down the hill toward my house and died maybe 15 feet off the four wheeler trail. I could not have asked for any better of a situation. I am happy beyond belief and would like to thank all you guys for your help. Even though I don't post much on the site, I am constantly on here soaking up as much knowledge as I can. Couldn't have done it without you guys! I am done for the season now and look forward to trying to top this hunt next year. P.S. any guesses on age? comparing him to other deer on my property I was going to guess 3 years old
Great job on a first buck. A very satisfying feeling that all the work and preparation comes together.
Well done! Beauitful buck. Are you going to shoulder mount it or euro mount? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
