In the sport of fairness a good question has been raised about entering a buck into this year's contest. The question specifically is that should only the first buck shot be eligible for entry, or should the hunter get to choose which buck (if he/she shoots multiple bucks) to enter? Discuss and vote!
I vote for any buck. But that's because I can shoot more than one. Let's be different over here!!! Maybe we need to see who's on my team first??:d
Actually there are a few big buck states that you can shoot multiple bucks. Wisconsin Is one of them In certain circumstances. Never In Minnesota have we been able to shoot multiple bucks which Is a good thing or there wouldn't be nothing left for bucks around. It don't matter to me If you all want to allow whatever would be your biggest buck If someone were to shoot more then one!!:d
i say you take the team average score... if they take 8 bucks between the 3-4 of them and they average out it should be a significant advantage to anyone... edit - only caveat to that is that it forces everyone to enter every single buck they take to be fair so we end up with a little 'honor's system' thing goin...
The only reason I say first buck is how do we do it? Post the first one and then delete it if we get a larger one? Or just sit on it and not post any score until the season is over and then pick our largest?
I don't really care to be honest, but PA certainly isn't known for big bucks, and is a one buck state.
I hunt in a 3 buck state......To be honest, I don't really care. REALISTICALLY how many of us that live in multiple buck states are actually going to kill more than 1? I know there are certainly guys that will do it, but I'm pretty sure it will be a small %... I don't find it unfair if someone "holds out" and enters buck #2, 3....whatever. The same scoring rules apply. And I've never understood how that handicaps people that live in a 1 buck only state.....They've got the same opportunity we do, they just don't get a "muligan" as it were... Besides, if someone doesn't shoot a buck because they feel like it's too small to enter in this contest...well......I think that person would need to rethink their priorities. I understand personal goals and all that, that's fine. But for someone to change what they will or won't shoot simply because of this.....that's just plain silly, IMO.
I say if the hunter hunts multiple states that he/she can only enter one buck period, but he/she can choose which one he/she wants to enter.
I agree with the hunter being able to choose which one is entered. And to answer the question, you enter your first, and if you shoot a 2nd bigger buck then you enter that one and it knocks the smaller one out. Seems simple enough to me.
I agree with this.. simple we get to "bump" a buck out if we kill a bigger one after the first one.. I like it.
Well that ends any minor worries I might have had hunting PA early and then heading to IL for prime time.
Whatever the majority chooses will win.. so it really does not matter that I say. And I say 1st buck only. I hunt a 2 buck state. But I believe a first buck rule is only fair to other states with a 1 buck law. As well to other hunters who maybe can't hunt great lands.. or have time enough off.. or what have you. What if a team has 4 first and only bucks and combined get a score of.. lets say.. 500". Another team of 4 with 1 guy from a 2 buck state scores 498". That one dude/dudette sinks another buck at the contests closing(his/her second of contest) that tips them and they win with 501". You are all telling me that's fair to the team of all 1 buck staters.. or whatever. I think not. But whatever. I will call this the DH rule if it's passed.. thus making bowhunting.coms own contest like baseballs american league... where lets face it.. it's all about the homerun. And thus the DB rule is born. (designated buck).
Yep I say biggest also, We count gross score becuase nets are for fish so I say count your biggest!! Walt
