Finally after 48 sits I was able to get a shot at this buck. Ive passed up some good 3 year old bucks since September hoping for a real good one on video and was lucky enough to have him come in range. Buck scored 145 6/8.
Thanks everyone. You want the long version or short version? Basically we knew this guy was in this area, we had pics of him from last year and he just showed up last week so it was time to make a move when the wind was good and try and get the kill on video for the 2012 Overkill DVD. The property was only hunted 2 times this season, this being the second hunt. We had some small bucks come in early (3PM), and some 3 year olds come by around 3:30 PM chasing Does and almost saw a good fight. We saw one of the 3 years old breed a Doe and eventually they all ran off chasing a Doe. Everything was quiet for about 30 minutes when my buddy Felipe said here comes your boy. The buck came in directly behind me and I never saw him until he walked right by our tree. I couldnt get a shot becuase he was walking straight away. He went out to about 40 yards with no shot. Made a rub and was just sniffing around, we thought he was going to keep on going away and I was about to try grunting or a bleat when he turned and started walking right back at us. He stopped at 20 yards and started to scent check and just looked around for what seemed like forever. After a few minutes he finally turned and started to walk away quartering away. I gave him a "bah" to stop him, soon as he stopped I let it fly. I hit him a little back, but not too bad, I knew he was a dead deer. We saw him go down about 70 yards away but didnt expire. I figured it was a lung liver shot so we waited til dark and snuck out to get him in the morning. Unfortunately the foxes found him first but didnt get into him too bad.
