It finally happened this morning. I woke up this morning at the same time as I normally would and went through the same routine as I normally do. Only this time I was hunting a new stand location. Well, that's pretty much the same to considering I don't usually hunt a location more than twice in a row. I scouted this location yesterday after my morning hunt of seeing a small 4 point and nothing else. When I found the spot, I moved my stand and headed back to the house. I had not been in the stand long and a dang squirrel busted me. He stood there barking and screeching for a goo 10 min. Then he went on. About 30 min later I looked to my left and there this guy was traveling the trail I thought deer would. He stepped behind the trees to cross the downed fence. I drew and as soon as he re-appeared, I put my pin on him. Just like the play was written, he followed his lines all the way dawn to stopping when I grunted. As soon as he stopped, I settled my pin and let her go! At 22yd the arrow hit dead on where I wanted in the heart. He dropped, stood up and trotted to a fence line. He tried to jump the fence and crashed right over it got up took a couple leaps and smashed into some brush. He was done. I sent out the messages and waited. I climbed down about 20 min later and found my broken arrow and blood everywhere. Followed the trail even though I knew where he was. It wasn't a hard trail to follow at all. I stopped at the fence line and headed home. I called the neighbor and he met me at the the spot he crossed the fence. The blood was still easy to follow right to where he rested 15yd after he crossed the fence. Total distance traveled after the shot was about 75yd. Back at the house I started investigating why I didn't get a pass through. Well, actually I did but since he was in mid stride when he stopped, the arrow went into his opposite side leg. Here are some pics.
It can go like this. This is my 3rd bow deer. My first went just as smooth as this one. Actually dropped closer to the stand than this one. Probably due to size and age more than anything. Here is a pic of my first one.
Thanks guys. I owe a lot of thanks for this! I've learned a lot from veterans on this sight. I'm really enjoying hunting now.
