Well I have the first of the two bear skulls done. This one was the bigger of the two. It was 20-14/16 green and it is now 20-13/16 finished.

I knew it would change a little bit, I'm glad it was only 1/16". I did measure it quite conservative when green though. I wonder what the records show for P&Y? Wish they were separated out using listings without bait or hounds. This is the biggest bear I've taken by skull size and body size, 507lbs. But more important it was spot and stalk which really makes it sweet with a bow! When I was guiding in AK our hunters took a lot of 20" plus bears spot and stalk with a bow on the SE islands. But there are a ton of bears there and you can frequently spot and stalk several a day. The beach conditions make stalking them so much more fun and easier to do. The clear cuts, berry fields and canyons glassing and stalking is at another whole level of difficult. Even so with the bear populations in SE Alaska there is not a question if you will see a bear, just how big a bear you will find.

Nice Bear and the skull turned out nice. The one in my pic is from Prince Wales Island and is around 21". Which island were you on?

The one in this picture is not from Alaska, it's from Eastern Oregon. There are no bears this color on the SE islands. Maybe the odd dark brown one but nothing like this one.

Here is one I shot 9 days later in Washington
    [IMG]

This one was 68" long 54" girth 460lbs and 20-10/16 skull. It was an 18 yard shot. complete pass through with a 125gr slicktrick. I'll have his skull done in about 2-3 weeks.

This lady that videos my hunting. A real trooper to track them after the sun has set and using flashlights to follow blood in the bush! Don't find many hardcore hunting chicks like this anymore!

The real boss is trying to talk me into taking a year off from work... in case you were wondering why I decided to marry her. ;) No worries Trevor, there are plenty more black bears to chase up here. They are talking about a big mining development where Will shot his with me. We might have to go hunt that spot out before it gets destroyed. :hijacked:

Non-resident aliens (you) need a guide for everything in Alaska. It's one of the Guide Association's BS ways of keeping everything locked up for themselves. I'll be working on that in the next Board of Game regulatory cycle.
