I'm going to go today and see how much if any of my elk area as burned. We are having some serous situations here in Utah with the fires. Otherwise I hope you'all are having a good summer and staying safe.
Which fire affected your hunting area? We've had one fire up our canyon so far. A 'controlled' burn that got away from the feds. Nothing as bad as the 18,000 acres burned over on trail mountain after that controlled burn escaped. I heard this morning that the Dollar Ridge fire is already at 30,000 acres with zero containment. My elk hunting buddy is a wildland firefighter. He teases me about having to wake up at 3am to work a wreck on the highway or deal with a sick person but right now he's standing out in the heat and smoke running a water tender down in Richfield. That's gotta be way worse. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Here's a bunch of pictures for the folks who might find them amusing. This was a fire a few years ago that we could watch from our porch. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
On the upside, the burnt off area was reseeded and the elk and deer were back as soon as the grass sprouted. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Here is a couple elk. I have a lot of elk coming in. The one picture is the fire about two ridges over. I have a little video on my phone but don't know how to get it on here. It doesn't look good for my elk area. It looks like its going to burn.
Not sure about Elk but I have walked many a wildfire at sunrise the day after and always find nosy deer, tracks etc on a wildfire the next day they are lured to the area.
Its a little over 52,000 acres burned its 45% contained. 74 homes destroyed and 6 damaged along with 131 camp trailers destroyed. Plus 158 sheds and out buildings. I'm going to go see this Saturday if they will let me up there.
The closest Forest service office ill have either a fire hotline or an announcement on their webpage. Also if there is a national website that will tell you info on specific fires, % of containment number of resources etc, daily updates on progress.
Yeah I used to check the sit report every summer every day unless I was on a fire, now not so much I don't care.
