People can be extremely petty about sports teams. I'm not surprised.

It is sad that this guy is out of a job for his tie instead of job performance. Petty doesn't even start to cover my feelings on this dealership. The wife was looking at getting a new Chevy, this dealer is off the short list.

Just a guess, but I'm betting there's more to this story. If there is and the guy wore it to specifically provoke his boss, he's a moron. His boss is one in either case.

    I'm not surprised either.

In business I'm very coherent of sports teams, trends, and brands. Something as simple as Ford/Chevy can lose you a deal.

    Pretty nuts, really!

Packer green is ugly, so can you blame him?

I bet there is more to the story

    Here is the latest.

He sold 14 vehicles last month and is considered a good salesman. The dealer said they have affiliation with The Bears and that is why. The salesman thought the GM was joking when he said he would fire him.

I think there is more also.

I almost got fired from a local grocery store when I was 16 during the Desert Storm war. I had on an American Flag bandanna on my head (like a do rag) and a Middle Eastern descent woman in management made a big deal over it and made me take it off or I would be fired. I took it off. HOWEVER, it may have been against dress code (I don't know), this guy was following dress code!

Not sure about the state it occurred in.....but, in NC you can be fired for just about anything.

Look...your boss tells you not to do something ...........and you do it. And now, you wanna ***** about getting fired?

    Really?

When your boss told you.....TWICE....which time left you not knowing?

    This.

In Michigan, you can get fired for anything other than race, religion, nation of origin, age, disability, or pregnancy. All employees are considered "at will". If I tell someone to skip to their desk or their fired, and they walk, I can fire them. Work is fun.

In PA it seems you need to have a court case against someone to fire them.

If they have some previous stated business dealings with the bears, then he probably had every right to fire him. When I worked at an engineering firm we were doing some work for anheuser busch, we went to the bar with some of them and guess what the rule was when ordering drinks? Yep just AB products - it's just plain courtesy not to slap them in the face at first chance.

Also, the manager may have thought it could be bad for business, especially since it was in Ill. It was certainly in bad taste, there are plenty of other ways to honor a dead relative. I probably would have canned him too.

Granny should have told John to always respect his employer's warnings.

It appears he was already offered interviews at two other dealerships, including a Chevy Dealer in Homewood. Doesn't help that the boss was White and went on record saying he was fired for bad sportsmanship. They said he can have his job back and that dozens of calls have been coming in from potential customers wanting to buy a car from him. Looks like the dealership lost out on this one with bad publicity and sales losses.

    Lost out?

Hell, they're in IL....and they fired a GB fan!....lol What's not to love?

I wonder how the Bears front office feels about speding their $$ in their program with this dealership? Appreciated? Ya think?

I wonder how many Bears fans will buy from a dealership who does so much to stand up for the hometown boys?

    Lost out? Really?

Would anybody even have mentioned this if it had been a firing over the Canada v. US Olympic hockey game.....and it had been a Canadian flag? Hell no. Let's take out common sense (don't do that or you're fired) and inject emotion into the situation - yeah!.
