Well, I finally finished clearing my food plot. This one is bigger than any of my other four. It is about 320 feet long by about 35 feet wide. Roughly about a 1/4 acre. I'll tell you one thing, it is easier said than done!. It took me 3 weekends to get this far. Two of which were cut short due to break downs. This sort of thing is hard on equipment. I broke my grapple once and my quick attach once also. I had both fixed by the following weekend. Here is the thread when I first started the project. http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?33673-Making-a-new-food-plot-in-my-woods Next, I'll be dragging it out and preparing it for lime and fertilizer before planting. Then I will be hinge cutting arount the perimeter for added security. Here's what it looked like before I started. After clearing. From the far end looking toward the start. One of my stands above the Rhino. Looking from the start toward the back by my stand.
Still looks pretty shady and those trees are gonna suck a lot of moisture out of the ground too. I can really tell the difference around the edges of my food plots where the tree roots reach out into them. If stuff grows in there it will be a killer spot. Good luck.
I thought the same thing. Not to say it looks bad. I had to cut some good trees down to get the most light on my plots. I removed the trees that blocked the morning sun, since it get so hot in the evening. But it might work. Mine didn't last year so i made changes this year. Best of luck to you.
