But whats the difference, PT? The only thing I got out of the deal was the rack. Not any different than finding it weeks later.

The difference is you put a period on the shot. You shot the animal and you recovered the animal .. that's the difference ... your hunting life didn't continue until you found it weeks or months later by chance ...

and AGAIN, we all have lost deer ... it sucks, but it is gonna happen ...so to those that have found it later, I suppose it is a happy time for some, but for others, just a reminder of things that went wrong during one specific sit ...

GMMAT said it best when describing his buck found 4 weeks later ....

Christine, all the posts I have read, sans 1 or 2, are not judgemental .... just peoples perceived feelings ... so I expect no one would disapprove of you being happy ... I would be happy as heck for you ....

and again, this example is something that happened totally out of your control ... like yotes .. I hope you find him ... I really do .. and IMO, you will have GREAT reason to celebrate him....

And it should be that way.

Unfortunately.. some peeps don't like when others think differently than they do.

Why? Who cares. This thread.. and others like this are about your opinion.. whether its for or against the grain of the "norm".

If you find it Chris.. you know I will be there to congratulate you in February/March at one of the shows I usually see you at.

Thank you .... this sums up this whole thread ... people are different and they should be allowed to be ... it's all subjective

She knows where he went ... kinda ...

I know you can say that people that couldn't find their buck, knew where it went ... kinda ... but TOM ME, this is different ... nature stopped the recovery

It isn't black and white so why try to define it as such?

What about the guys who give away their meat? Just shoot a buck, cape it out, and "donate" the carcass for $35 at the butcher shop. Are they unsuccessful?

What about a guy who finds his deer the night after and the yotes demolished it?

What about a guy who loses meat due to the temperature?

What about people hunting overseas where it is ILLEGAL to keep the meat?

All of my animals killed have been varying in degree of success, i don't think an exact line can be accurately drawn in the sand on what determines a success...it has to be on a situational basis.

I know right or wrong I will never tag an animal i haven't laid my hands on. I will never waste meat if I can keep from it. I will never have a set scale of what a success is to me either.

She's water tight though! Christine, you find him, and if you need me, I'll do the swimming!

Tony, every animal spends its entire life trying to survive. That means avoiding humans at all costs. What makes you think they would change those survival skills once they're hit? Some get away better than others... for the moment.

Unless it's a hunt in AK. You wound it and your tag's punched, regardless of whether it's recovered or not. They're especially vigilant on that with brown bear hunts. A hunter that wounds a brown bear is done with their hunt whether it's just a graze or a fatal hit. For a non-resident that could mean a $12K+ bummer.

This can be compared to fishing (i think!)....this would be similar to me if i deep hooked a monster walleye and on the way in the fish broke my line. I fooled the fish into biting and technically beat him but he got away. A couple days later i find the dead walleye with my lure stuck in its throat. The lure is getting ripped out but finding the fish accomplished nothing for me. The fish was wasted and i failed to do my part. I wouldnt get a replica made or even take pictures of it. I would be just as upset with this as one i never recovered at all.

You failed to do your part or your equipment failed to do its part? If you're going to get upset when a fish gets away, then why go fishing at all? Wouldn't it be easier and safer on your esteem to simply buy a fish at the market? Think about it, you would be able to control all aspects of your "catch" with zero risk.

Great reward comes with great risk. If we were all perfect/godlike, had xray eyes/crystal balls/flawless equipment, and could run faster, then we could mitigate that risk, right? Since we have none of these attributes, why beat ourselves up for being human?

It's okay for someone to have a difference of opinion with your own Huck.

People see things differently right or wrong. Why beat up someone for having one different than yours?
