Well this year was a huge change for me because I'm a freshman at University of Michigan and dealing with deaths in my friends and family hunting time has been really limited. I planted a small foodplot early this year but had bad stand placement and wind so I decided to set up my climber on the trail the deer were using to get to the plot. It was October 15th and I had seen a few smaller does and bucks and was contemplating shooting a big doe before she ran off. About 20 minutes before end of shooting light I heard this big guy behind me about 11 yards downwind. I thought he busted me but I stayed behind a tree next to me so he was at 38 yards before I could get a shot off. It was a double lung shot with a Rage 3 blade that left a ridiculous hole in him. I heard him crash but it was so dark when i got down I just marked my arrow and followed what little of a blood trail there was in the morning about 75 yards to an open CRP field. I have never been happier hunting in my entire life. I was worried about not having much time in the woods being in college but all my preseason scouting was worth it. My taxidermist unofficially gross scored him between 135 and 140 inches and he weighed in just over 240lbs. Awesome experience and awesome hunt ill never forget. Man i love bowhunting!!!!
Congrats on the deer and nice shot. Spending time in the woods usually helps me when I'm dealing with adversity and it seems to have worked for you.
Sorry about the deaths you've had to deal with. Hope time will heal that pain. Congrats on a great deer, and good luck with your studies.
Nicely done Zac, Congrats! Books, packpacks, treestands, and homework go hand in hand. Let your mind absorb the stuff between the pages, and let your ears absorb the sounds in the woods. That's just a small tip from a former college student...
