I've lived in Central Louisiana, Coastal South Carolina and here, with gators. I have never even thought about them while swimming even when I can see them. The males may get defensive sometimes during mating season and the females will guard a nest. Here, I see one or two per year, except for one day last summer when I saw two in the same day. They mostly feed at night and on whatever the bow-fisher (people) leave behind.

Spent more time than expected on the bath this week which took away from my training time. I did manage one short swim (2100) on Wednesday and a 1/2 mile open water along the beach on the 4th. The beach swim in the surf was really hard with no goggles and water getting in my mouth. I enjoyed the swim, though I did step on a stingray which raked my ankle with it's tail... my wife laughed at her tough guy husband's reaction... Thankfully, no barb... just a minor scrape... Actually I think I may have stirred up something it wanted to eat... not sure but I couldn't get my feet off the bottom fast enough.

    Edit...

Did a 3/4 mile river swim today... pretty easy except for swallowing river water. I am going to use a snorkel for safety reasons next time. I didn't even see any gators though every time I swam through a shadow it looked like something was under me. It's amazing where my mind can wander off to at times.

I made a 4 mile swim this week. I lost a lot of training time with Mom's illness but have done okay. Time is running out as the pool closes this coming week. I am going to try a 5 mile swim Monday or Tuesday depending on the weather. Hopefully I can go at least 5... which is an 8250 yard (swimming mile). I don't know... wish me well.

I still loath to swim, I spent my youth in swimming pools. I used to have hair that crunched when you touched it, chronic dry skin and ear infections. heck even remembering 10 100's on a minute and a half makes my shoulders sore. I had a chance to swim in college people thought I was dumb to turn it down but I was done.

I love it... but I am not very fast. I doubt I could do 1 100 on the minute. I usually go around 1:20 on a 4500.

Want a good water work out in a pool? Dive in swim a lap in one breath climb out do 15 push ups drive in the next lane same thing up and down the pool lanes at a rapid pace.

Yeah I trained in a 25 yard pool, it is weird how a 50 yard pool throws off timing.

I asked my son about this and he says they do it all the time... only they stay in the same lanes... Sometimes they do underwaters the whole way... Brutal
